Hey everyone,

I just had peking duck for the first time tonight here in Beijing and I thought it was fabulous!! When I get back stateside, I'd like to take the missus to try it. Anyone know of a great restaurant in Houston that serves good peking duck?

Thanks!

There is nothing quite as good as the duck in Beijing! The restaurants here in Houston serve the duck with the meat instead of just the skin as it is served there but that is because the duck the have here doesn't have near the fat content.

The closest we have been able to find is actually Yao's (although stay away from the rest of the food). Outside of duck, the best authentic Chinese food can be found at Hong Kong Food Street which is just inside the beltway off Bellaire. It is in the corner of a strip center just to the right of the larger and more noticeable Singh Singh,

texasdanger, just thought I would let you know you don't have to go to China to have Peking duck. Yeah I love the plum sauce with the duck.

Haha, electricag! very funny!

Thanks for the responses to all of you! I will give Yao's a try and also some of the other places suggested.

I have actually been over here for 3 weeks. Started in Seoul, Korea for a week and then went to Jakarta, Indonesia for a couple days. From there, went to Bangkok, Thailand and now have been in Beijing and Shanghai this week.

Saw a lot of really cool things, ate some good food and ate some really bad food! Haha, one night out in Korea got me and two of my traveling co-workers sick (vomiting all night... one of them was flying home to houston the same night and ended up in the hospital when he landed.. ugh!). Overall, really enjoyed the time over here and looking forward to the next trip.

There was a place on Bellaire, near the Shipley's Donuts, near Hong Kong City Mall that had pretty good Peking Duck. It was on the same side as Shipley's.

Best I can do without being there.

My wife and I visited Beijing back in 2007. We've been searching since then to find places that serve food similar to what we'd found there.

A friend suggested Classic Kitchen on Bellaire, it's on the north side of the road in a shopping center maybe 1/2 mile inside Bwy 8. Not sure if they serve Peking Duck, but worth a visit.

One thing, some places require advance notice on Peking duck.
