I'm headed up there to see some ITT family for Thanksgiving and need the shortest/fastest route. Is it through Waco or some other direction?

I'm from Lubbock and did the drive to and from A&M quite often.

Best route I liked was SH 6 through Waco and Eastland; then IH 20 of course from there westward.

Tried SH 36 often through Temple, Abilene, etc, but this route has more small town speed traps and signals.

From Houston, you almost might as well just take IH 45 to Ennis and then use US 287 to cut over to IH 20 in Fort Worth. This way is DEFINITELY more miles, but your average speed will DEFINITELY be higher and the total travel time will probably be less.

If you are going to I-20 in Fort Worth like Anagrammatic said, you might as well just take 290 from Houston to Hwy 6 to I-35 in Waco and go north to FW. I have traveled that route many times and find it the easiest.

Highway 6 to I-20 to 84.

290 to 36, 36 to I-20, I-20 to 84

Set the cruise on 75, slow down through towns when you hit them, and stop in hamilton at the sonic for lunch/dinner

If you're going through Hamilton, the fastest way is to take Highway 6 to Hearne and cut across on FM 485 to Temple and hit 36 there.

I second the Highway 36 route. My family is in Snyder, short of Lubbock on 84, and that is the way I generally go. Sometimes I take 6 if I want to stop at the Chicken and get a burger or something.

One thing about Hamilton, you have to eat at Storm's Burger.

I have tried every route listed (and some others) and that is the fastest by far.
