lol on the philly rolls.

bluefish is quaint. cool that it's in a house and the prices are reasonable. but it's not over the top greatness to me...just a good change of pace.

Bluefish is just okay...but its damn sure nothing special. And to say any one placs is "by far" the best in Houston is silly.

i used to love coco's on richmond and fountain view. we don't go there near as much since it moved to westheimer and montrose (which is odd because i'm much closer to the new spot).

good mix of sushi, strippers, vagrants and drug dealers.

so true. there is a range, but it's not like the difference between long john silver's and mccormick and schmicks. this is raw fish with similar prep work. most of the time, you're paying for the scenary

cocos was more party than sushi bar. good times back in 02 there.

i agree...that's why i didn't think they should have moved.

it would have been great to have coco's and the underground poker room upstairs open at the same time.

Is Oishi still open? We went there the other day and it was closed and looked like it might stay that way...

I live right around the block. They close for about a month every year from mid-December to mid-January. That place is always packed from 5-8 every weeknight, so I don't think they'd stay closed. In turn, I guess that's why they can afford to close down shop for a month.

RockOn - what are better sushi places in Sugar Land than Japaneiro's? I'd love some suggestions because I'm not aware of any. We did Sushi Rock once and my god it was horrendous. It's closed now.

sorry for the delayed response.

I would suggest Kenshin down towards missouri city. I think its HWY6 and Austin Pkwy.

There was a place called "Ra" in the highland village shopping center that was pretty good. I don't know if it was the best, but it had a happy hour vibe to it and it seemed like a fun crowd. Is it still open?

ra is still there.

and much like the godfather...it insists upon itself

I normally dislike trendy places like Ra that tend to be all about hype and looks but don't have anything to back it up... Ra had surprisingly good sushi.

Kubo's

i love Miyako, but that's because I like to order their special rolls. service can be iffy at times though.

Kubo's is great as well, as is Azuma and even Sushi King. These are all on Kirby, except for Kubo's which is in Rice Village, so close enough.

Ok, I just moved to 290 and West...can anyone suggest a good sushi place out here? I usually go to Rickshaw on Westheimer and kirby, which I love! We sometimes go, but it is a drive from where we are now.

Ra is the best in Houston as far as Im concerned, but I have only been on Sundays and after work before it gets too crowded.

If you work in the area and want a good, quick sushi pick me up, Central Market on Westheimer/Weslayan has a good selection. I get it at least twice per week. Cheap too.

Check out RA, Sage 400 (try the yellowtail), and The Fish in Midtown. I recommend them all.

Ra's atmosphere is great... their sushi... is very lacking in freshness.

Sushi King is probably the best tasting sushi inside the loop. Fish is next on the list.
BMX Bandit

my only problem with Ra is the nightclub atmosphere.
