Will Norm clear Christmas?

This morning the Musers said Norma was 78 and Tom Grieve was 75. Looking at them standing next to each other and realizing there is only 3 years difference is crazy.

Don't disagree as I certainly wasn't going to listen to it, but a user on Reddit cliff noted his appearance (if anybody cares):

Quote:

Here are the main points of importance from the Mom Game if anyone is interested:
  • They would not be adhering to the Cease-and-Desist order. The Patreon will be ongoing.
  • Their goal is to create a podcast daily. In the future, he would like to do a daily livestream of their podcast and then upload the audio.
  • His long-term plan is to NOT have people pay to listen to their show.
  • The sticking point in the negotiations was that they wanted to own, produce, and monetize their content (outside of what they were doing from noon to 3pm). They were told no by Cumulus, despite the fact that other folks on the station were already doing it. He did not name names, but he clearly meant Gordo as he has his Twitch stream (disclaimer: Gordo has stated any profits from his Twitch stream go to charity).
  • During this recent failed negotiation with Cumulus, they were not only trying to increase their salary but also were fighting to get raises for the support staff of the show. Some they budged on, some they did not.
  • The Ticket tried to prey off his emotional attachment to the Ticket in negotiations.
  • He would not have left by himself. It had to be with Dan.
  • Every day that passes after the big decision makes it easier and easier for him to move on.
  • He has been on the phone with 8 hours a day with lawyers.
  • He said that his wife has a great job, and he has a safety net with his extended family. These two factors helped cushion the blow of leaving the station.
  • He called his current relationship with the other hosts good but anticipated it would get better over time. I sensed some hesitancy when he said "good".
  • He had some extremely emotional conversations with the other hosts on the way out.
  • He understands people that think it is crazy that he left a dream job after working so hard to get it. But the fact that he left, illustrates the seriousness of his decision. He did not do this lightly.
  • He feels like in two years, everyone will be doing great: The Freak, the new Ticket hosts, as well as themselves.

You have Bob writing, helping Troy, doing interviews, substack, etc
You have Gordo with Twitch
Sirois actively promoting his Twitch and other ventures, when on the air.
Norm with his picks
Yusef writing for the Stars

Hosts make money outside of their on-air job.

If Dan and Jake wanted to use On-Air Ticket-owned content outside of 12-3, I dont blame Cumulus, at all. Cumulus cant be expected to assume all the costs, provide the market, and also let the hosts monetize the same content. Why on earth would they do that?

What I dont understand, is why they didnt keep their jobs, and start a podcast on the side. Step down once the demand got to that point. Seems like hurt feelings expedited their decision.

I think that's the issue, they were being told they couldn't do a podcast/youtube live or whatever. At least that's the implication.

What do you mean by this? Because in your first paragraph it sounds like you are stating that Cumulus rightly would have a problem with them producing a podcast "outside" of 12 - 3...but in your next paragraph you ask why they didn't just keep their day jobs and produce a product on the side...seems like the same thing.

I also saw on the Ticket subreddit earlier this week that Jake mentioned he received no raise when he moved from producer to full time host...so he had ostensibly been hosting for three years on a producer's salary, which is nuts to me and makes the move make even more sense.

Sorry...I realize I said that confusingly.

Start a podcast/twitch/youtube, etc...similar to what the other hosts have done, with an original show/content...not using Cumulus owned content. Build up their base a bit, and then branch out on their own.

Given the numerous other examples of hosts doing similar things, I cant believe Cumulus would prevent them from doing it also.

My guess is that they wanted to benefit outside the show, using the show's content, and Cumulus rightly said no.

Listening to their podcast it doesn't sound like they wanted to monetize the 12-3 content, it sounds like they wanted to do a podcast/YT/whatever in addition to 12-3 and Cumulus wouldn't let them. I can certainly believe that the corporate parent would have inconsistent standards or policies for different employees.

Maybe you're right. Color me skeptical, but if that's what they're insinuating, I dont think that can possibly be the entire story.

This is pretty much what D&J have said, not much of an insinuation at this point. Obviously that's only their side of the story, but it does generally match up with the Cumulus line repeated on the Musers announcement segment that the HZ just wanted to do something different. That's sort of technically correct but doesn't really paint the entire picture.

I just wonder if Dan and Jake are bringing in 25k/mo, what can the Musers bring in? 75k/mo? 100k? More?

And neither does D&J explain the entire picture. Right now we're only hearing Dan and Jake's side of the story. And we all know how petty Jake can be to paint the narrative in his favor more so than the average person does.

Good question...but those shows would all cannibalize each other, since they have the same fan base.

I know that Dan is a historian of sorts when it comes to content and his show recordings. He has hours upon hours, days upon days, months upon months, of show recordings that I figure he would like to monetize and put out like a "rotten radio". But I imagine Cumulous said no. I understand him wanting to break off and Jake hooked a good anchor. He's likely to get big money that Dan gets and rightly so.

I just figured that the tier 1 ticket hosts made between $200K and 600k(musers) and I could honestly see them commanding as much. Hell the musers nominated for another Marconi this year.

So a guy just posted this on the entertainment board (in a thread about the movie Superbad for some reason) with apparently not one bit of irony, and I thought you guys would appreciate it.

Cue Dave Matthews Band.

This seems like the most obvious answer to me. Dan and Jake wanted to start a Hang Zone podcast and Cumulus said no. I would expect they'd say the same thing to the Musers if the three of them wanted to try the same thing. Gordo on his own is a different story just like Jake/Sirios on their own were, too.
