I just remember Matt and JJT's show on the weekend/fill-in. I always remember listening and enjoying Matt but hating everything about JJT.

Really glad Matt is back as it's kind of new blood and he has a great radio voice as opposed to Mino and Sean.

If played correctly, it wouldn't shock me if they are the heir apparent to the Musers.

I thought the same thing especially after seeing him announce some mini podcasts this past weekend. He always wanted to hit 50 years doing Dallas radio. Believe he hit 48.

Btw, with Norm's retirement timing syncing with the end of June, I do wonder if his contract cycle sync'd with Dan and Jake's and an unspoken factor was that he wasn't happy with his renewal either. He said he wasn't even thinking about retirement until a few months before he did it, which makes you think a less than appetizing offer kicked it off. Have no idea if they synched or not but he's been on pretty short contracts for a while. We know he wanted to make 50 years, but I can see the recent departures causing Cumulus to make an offer that was less attractive to Norm and speed up his retirement decision

I like Matt and Donnie.

They are a really good pairing, and play off each other well.

Sean and Mino are gonna be pretty spare, but honestly, what do we expect for a 2 hour mid-day show? Who knows, maybe they'll surprise me. I think they'll need to come up with some regular/entertaining bits, and nto just be straight sports guys. They need to work in Monty quite a bit.

Going from Musers to Matt and Donnie will keep the listeners around. HZ will get listeners because they're drive time. They just needed someone to fill a couple hours.

All in all, makes sense, and not too bad the way it all shook out.

I'm not overly excited about 1-3 but they are new hosts so they may find their place over time.

That said Ben and skin already got most of my time in that slot so not much of a change for me.

Today's Dumb Zone podcast is fantastic (and free). Hopefully they find a consistent third contributor really improves the whole dynamic.

When I listened to last week's free Dumb Zone episode, when I played it in my truck through my phone it would stop any time the screen saver came on (so every 15 seconds or so). Is there a way to prevent that? Or is there an app or something where we can listen to it?

I tried Youtube, and it seemed to work a little better but wasn't great.

is it on youtube? i subscribe (humblebrag), so i have the rss feed, and get it through podcast app

Their place is weekends and dry dock. They've both had years of on air time, and have shown repeatedly that they are the radio equivalent of watching paint dry.

Yep, they've had years of being bad weekend shows. Monty has a little something and they put him in the background. Really makes no sense but Blake would be an improvement to the Hardline, so maybe that's a win

I think some of it has to be a shot at the folks who went to The Freak. Look what you missed out on by not showing patience/loyalty like these guys did.

I believe this is a youtube thing. If you have youtube premium you can keep listening when its not active on screen but otherwise it pauses.

Seemed to work fine streaming directly on the patreon page and doesn't stop when you minimize the window like YT does. The free eps are available there as well

Yeah, the dude did great work for $40k a year since 2008. And he was basically a 3rd host on Norm's show being paid like a producer. To contrast what Dave does on the Hardline as a host to what Sirois did on Norm's is the real joke. He was a host and a producer.

It's not a message. It's a company going cheap and probably not paying those 3 a dime more

yup. Akaash told them very specifically what he made on his podcast, which prompted a WTF moment from D&J.

Even if they can't monetize the podcast, they have the freak as a fall back imo

i don't think they're trying to match, per se, and i've never listened to akaash's podcast.

maybe they'd be happy with 5k subs...which is doable, i think, and would probably get them to their mometary goals.

it was akaash (not me) saying they are very undervalued.
