came up bc he thought he could take the minimum weight male champ (5'3"; 99lbs). he didn't want any part of rousey. sirios thought he could do it as well but everybody else in the mix thought the skilled boxer would win even at that size. agree that if you allow kicks and arm arms rousey would destroy him.

Yeah, jake got a lot more mileage out of that fight night than he deserved. The other dude was awful and not interested in fighting. He'd get wrecked in both scenarios here

Which is hysterical because anyone who knows even a little about fighting saw that video and laughed their ass off. I remember some tough talk from Jake afterwards and I have never taken him seriously again. Absolutely hilarious that he's the ticket "tough" guy.
Yeah, it was a really awkward slapfight where both guys burned quite a bit of energy doing absolutely nothing. Jack landed a few awkward punches (almost more open handed slaps) while the other yahoo did nothing and fell down once or twice from wrestling and exhaustion, and in the end, Jake somehow got the rep of being some badass. Jake spent weeks getting actual boxing instruction while Mike seemed ready for it to be a bit, then they both looked almost equally ridiculous
The 5'3" minimum weight champ would hit them with a lot of body blows to the point their defense would drop and open up the knockout chance. Worked all of the time in EA Sports Boxing

When searching for video of the minimum weight champ, saw stats for one of the champs was height 5'4" and reach 72".
I don't even think it would take a bunch of body punches. One liver shot and Jake goes down. Those dudes are way too quick to get hit by one of Jake's punches. Hell, a couple weeks ago a 22 year old 108 lbs contender (I know that's not minimum, but it's only 3 lbs more), Bam Rodriguez, went up two weight classes and beat Carlos Cuadros, a former champion.

The boxer wouldn't even have to punch him in the first two rounds. He could just move around and feint and Jake would be completely exhausted going into the third. Jake would never land a punch during that time and the boxer could punch him wherever and whenever he wanted after that. It wouldn't even be close.
Those guys are on a different planet when it comes to quickness, endurance, and breathing rhythm. An amateur might get lucky and be able to take the punches for a round or two but then they'd be too out of breath to even block for very long.

Really random question/note. Has anyone listened to or heard of the podcast "Welcome to Nightvale"? It's a weird podcast of a fictional town in the southwest and it's a mock news station who delivers news to the town, a town in which every conspiracy theory is true.
My buddy recommended it and said it's episodic and you can listen to any of the episodes. So I decide to give it a try and picked Episode 160 completely random. At the 4:50 mark of the episode the host reads a "letter" from a concerned citizen named Bob Sturm who's a big stats guy about the weather.
Gotta be a ticket reference, right? And if so, from an incredibly unlikely place. This podcast apparently has a huge following and is in talks for a tv show, tour dates, and has released multiple books. I'm only 5 minutes into my first episode so I have no idea if I like it yet.

Okay definitely a ticket reference. Later in the episode there is a character named Mike Rhyner. Have they discussed this on the show before?
