Bob started by making a great point about mid tier SEC is nothing like mid tier big 12, and then corby acted like a child mid tier is mid tier. He basically said Iowa state and Kansas state are the same as Mississippi state and Ole Miss. It's amazing how uninformed and delusional corby is about the grind of the SEC. Bob just backed down and took it.
Maybe it's just semantics. Obviously the SEC is by far the best conference in the country and it's not even a fair comparison with the Big 12. But I don't think the difference between the "mid tier" teams is the correct way to look at it. For one, are Mississippi state and ole miss mid tier? Not really. They are usually bottom tier, at least lately. I know it changes all the time, but lately the only teams they are above are vandy and Arkansas, and I guess they are about even with kentucky, tennesse, SC, and mizzu. They are somewhere in the 7-12 range depending on the year. So maybe mid tier, maybe bottom third tier. Iowa state has definitely been better than the Mississippi schools lately.
The huge difference between the two conferences is the top and upper mid tiers. In the big 12 you have OU who is always good (but never had to play a hard schedule) plus usually one other team that ends up being good. That one team usually changes each year. It's a rotation between okst, Baylor, Iowa state, Texas etc. Compare that to the SEC. the top and upper mid tier consists of Bama, Georgia, LSU, A&M, Florida, and Auburn. At a minimum, 4 of those teams are going to be very very good each year and it's usually more than 4, plus there is sometimes a team from the mid to lower mid tier that has a surprise year. There is no comparison.
Anyways, I didn't hear the segment and doubt Corby and bob were having a semantics battle. But comparing mid tier teams is really dumb when one conference has 14 teams and 6-7 legit top teams, and the other has 10 teams and 1 legit top team.
