I'm dating this girl that lives in Denton...we usually go out to eat when I go up to visit and so far I haven't had anything good to eat up there.

Do yall know of any good places up there??

pretty much just chain places around there.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Denton has a TON of non-chain places to eat.

What kind of stuff are you looking for?

Mexican - I'm a big fan of El Guapo's and El Matador but Denton has a TON of Mexican food.

Burgers - We have a gem of a place in RJ's Old Fashioned Hamburgers. It's a little hole in the wall but it's clean and it has the best burger you will ever have in your life. A lot of people enjoy the Denton County Burgers place on the square but I think it's horrible.

Italian - Joey's, Giusseppe's (sp?), Bari's are all good.

Chinese - Mr. Chopsticks

Hannah's is really good if you're looking for a more upscale place.

Dessert - Beth Marie's ice cream on the square

The movie grill is another great date place.

And just about every bar on the square or on Fry/Hickory has a grill as well.

If you are on Fry as the bars are closing there is a guy that sells tacos outside of Cool Beans for 2 bucks on the weekends. They're delicious.

A little Sweetwater around the corner from the old Square for a little patio drinking pre-meal isn't half-bad.

bar food: the Loop Hole (formerly Ellington's) on the Square (their cheese fries are pretty good)... then a soda/ice cream at the fountain next door for desert... the view of the lit old court house is worthy.

J&J's pizza on the square is incredible.

Frilly's on University has pretty good cajun. 10 miles north of Denton is Babe's in Sanger.

I've eaten at a restaurant called 3 Fins I believe. It was kind of a trendy seafood place. Many of their menu items were identical to Papadeaux. I had the blackened swordfish and it was very good.

isn't there a new Flying Tomato in Denton somewhere?

Is Mr. Chopsticks still open? I thought it was being torn down for the new shopping center. The last I heard, the Tomato hasnt re-opened.

I've been to El Guapos and thought it was pretty dang good Mexican food.

If you want to venture out just a bit, there's a Prairie House on 380 in Crossroads, and Andrew's Diner in Bartonville is excellent. There's also an Italian food and Mexican food place in Corinth at Pinnell Square off of Corinth Parkway. I can't think of the name for either one but they are both really good as well.

I agree with the other recommendations and also agree that Denton County Hamburgers is awful (but people rave about it).

Hey, there's also a Double Dave's!!!

Mr. Chopsticks was in its new location within a matter of weeks.

The Tomato hasn't reopened and it's unlikely it will - the owners sucked at running a business.

Crappy pizza anyways imo.

(It's been unrelated to the Flying Tomato chain for 11 years.)

dw, the name ur looking for is Le Peep, and yes there are multiple locations scattered throughout the metroplex. El Guapo, is good, especially if you are a fan of fried ice cream, its about as good as it gets. Also go to mi casita on carroll, nothing fancy about it but they make some mean fajita nachos. Rumor has it that the Greenhouse is also good eats as well.

Good to hear! Where is it? I remember this guy having some strong feelings about everything when he learned he was being evicted. I'm glad he is still in business.

Mr. Chopsticks can now be found on Scripture Rd, which is north of its former location. I don't get the Mr. Chopsticks craze, but man everyone else just loves the joint.

If you like Cajun, there is a place called Frilly's off of University by Krogers.

If you like Seafood, Three Fins is at Loop 288 and 35E. Very nice.

Beth Maries is great for ice cream.

We haven't eaten at a chain place in almost 3 years. Plenty of places to choose from in Denton that are local and great food.

Actually, Frilly's and Three Fins are both run by the same guy.

I'd throw in Sweet Basil for lunch, the special is an entree, soup, and appetizer for 7 bucks

I agree on Guapo and Matador for mexican

There's also a churrascaria over by best buy, its a brazilian barbecue. Its pretty pricy but well worth it.

Unfortunately Joey's went under because it was pretty good italian.

All of this is making me look forward to moving back to Denton

Hannahs is very good, though pricey.

EL Guapo to me is overrated, but acceptable. Good margaritas though.

I can't believe anyone said Andrews is excellent. It is good family style food (the place we take my inlaws) but not exactly date material in my opinion.

Don't forget Double Daves though! I find the Denton location lacking compared to BCS.

Also the Tomato (kin to the old one on Northgate from the 80s) was an awesome throwback. It was burned down prior to it being grazed for a CVS, but the owner told me he was re-opening on 288 soon.

The pizza place on the square is good, not great.

Bari's is right down the middle Italian fare. But does a damn good job of it. At the end of teh month they are having 1987 prices as a promotion for their 20 year anniversary.

Oh yeah, Rudys.

Someone mentioned RJ's.

This would be a way to test your date out. It is a hole in the wall in every way. And the burgers are great, RJ is even better.

Three Fins is just off the north east corner of 288 and 35, its on the other side of discount tires or whatever the name is.

If it's been a while since you've been to the DoubleDave's it was purchased by new owners last year and has been a LOT better.

I guess Double Dave's is the only chain we go to but not very often. It was better 2 weeks ago.

BTW, if any of you Denton residents haven't been to RJ's you are missing out. Best burgers I've ever seen.

Go hungry.

I've been to a German/BBQ place over by one of the middle schools. It wasn't a bad place.

Try Tierney's Duck Inn in Lake Dallas. Kind of a dive appearance but great food and people.
