For those of yall that do not know our story, my son John was born about 10PM on 1-2-2022. About 6AM on 1-3, the rounding pediatrician let us know he's been diagnosed with Down Syndrome. It was a complete shock to us as we never did early genetic testing as 1) It wouldn't have changed anything with our birth plan, and 2) Results give both positive and negative readings on a surprisingly high basis.
While we were shocked, we were reached out to in droves with advice and connections. The biggest connection was to a school on TCUs campus called Kinderfrogs. KF is a preschool of sorts that caters predominantly to kids with DS and other genetic diagnosees. Typically 3-5 out of dozens of kids are accepted each semester and we were lucky enough to have John accepted on his first application at 19 months.
These kids get daily teaching by doctoral and pre-doctoral TCU special education majors as well as weekly Physical, Speech, and Occupational therapy from licensed therapists. I can't begin to state how much this has led to exponential growth for John.
While TCU does allocate some money for the school, due to the amazing outreach of donors to the school itself, each student is admitted free of charge.
The big fundraising Gala this year is April 12th. I'm attaching an informational sheet for any business owner or individual that would like to be a sponsor or even gather more information.
For more information you can call Kristine at 817-932-5067 or the KF main office at 817-257-6828 (Angela Rangel, the Academic Program Specialist will answer).
Again, no pressure whatsoever but if you would enjoy getting an early tax break and help an amazing cause, we'd be more than happy to see you there!!
