When did Northpark Mall become so ghetto?

Jesus, has anyone been to this mall lately? Why can't anything in Dallas stay nice? It's jarring because Northpark is the premier shopping center in Dallas. Highland Park Village isn't in Dallas proper

Now that the Galleria has gone way downhill, Northpark was supposed to be the crown jewel of DFW shopping. Now it is a crime ridden cesspool with carjackings, vehicle thefts and burglaries, and lots of theft at both anchor stores like Neiman's and other retailers, despite heightened security and police presence.

It's culture

This makes me sad. It's my favorite.

NorthPark on a weekend is quite different than NorthPark on a weekday (especially before 5pm).

All malls in large cities are this way. It's just a free hangout place for those who do not have the means. My wife and I went to the Galleria a few months ago and I think the entire place was "ghetto". I avoid malls like the plague.

Yeah, it changed pretty dramatically even in the last 5-10 years. We used to go there on the regular because it was a badass mall. Probably one of the most high end malls in the US, if not #1.

But then it got really scary in the last 5-7 years and we stopped going. Felt like you were in the third world. Jewelry stores stopped letting people in unless by appointment and now they employ bouncers at the entrance.

I feel safer at the Corpus Christi mall.

Culture and a DA that doesn't prosecute. It's like locusts. They devoured Prestonwood and then Valley View, and the Galleria and Northpark are next.

Eh I go there for the AMC and Eataly and don't notice much. I think you have to realize are two zip codes where one is across the highway and is incredibly poor and crime

This...

I was shocked when I went on a Saturday afternoon, stark difference even compared to a Saturday morning

Absolutely. Highland Park Village remains largely untouched, and it likely will for the foreseeable future, thanks to the strict law enforcement in HP/UP.

The same individuals with multiple warrants who have wreaked havoc at places like NorthPark are well aware that they'll be swiftly pulled over and arrested in the Park Cities, which discourages them from even passing through. This form of policing, criticized by leftists who idolize criminals, serves as a clear deterrent and is precisely why these areas remain well-maintained.

In contrast, places like NorthPark once enjoyed the same level of protection, but the rise of leftist policies has emboldened this disruptive element, leading to widespread chaos and destruction, even in formerly pristine suburbs like Plano and Frisco. These examples of once esteemed landmarks deteriorating into dumps will only worsen as the demographics of DFW continue to shift, accelerated by our open border).

Yet we are supposed to celebrate diversity. And never dare question diversity.

I only go on weekends but "ghetto" has never crossed my mind. Have you all ridden DART after 10pm?

Looks like we've got ourselves a detective in the house! Apparently, someone had enough time on their hands to go digging through my old posts, as if noticing the undeniable demographic changes in DFW is some kind of crime. Funny how WGann3 is more bothered by me pointing out the obvious than the actual issues staring us all in the face. Maybe they think if they ignore the apartments springing up like weeds, or pretend the crime spikes at places like NorthPark are just figments of my imagination, everything will magically be fine. Spoiler alert, it won't.

But hey, I get it. The truth hurts. It's much easier to virtue signal and live in denial than admit what's happening right in front of you. So, if this poster wants to spend their time scrolling through my posts instead of addressing the very real problems in this area, more power to them! Maybe next, they can dig up some stats on rising crime rates and crumbling schools in Dallas and even our once beautiful suburbs, because let's be real, those changes aren't just happening by chance.

In the meantime, I'll keep talking openly about the facts while WGann3 keeps playing Inspector Gadget.

My guy, take a deep breath... not everyone who finds your posts super cringeworthy is a "virtue-signaling ultra lefty". I have very fond memories from North Park growing up and it's sad what it's becoming, I don't disagree with you there. I just remembered your other topic you started and it took me two clicks and less than 5 seconds to get to your post history.

I'm breathing just fine, trust me bro. It's easy to stay calm when you're speaking facts, even if some people find that "cringeworthy". It's funny how you cringe at my posts but not at the crime, the apartments wrecking the suburbs, or the slow decline of places like NorthPark, which you yourself acknowledge. If pointing out the obvious makes me cringeworthy, I'll proudly own it.

You could take a deep breath yourself though. At least you'll be be relaxed as the city turns into a complete cesspool.

I find this thread oddly entertaining. OP --- you have to admit that when you pull up your posting history every single thread title (I know it's mostly the same one, but still) contains the word "ghetto", and that is kind of funny when you look at it.

That area east of 75 on Park over to Target is now the #1 crime area in all of Dallas according to police I know. Hundreds of thousands of people living in dump apartments with no jobs. Don't bother going inside that Target after 8pm. Rough. But them real estate bros getting paid, yo.

I'm with you. All those high end stores wouldn't be there if it were that way. I've been taking my kids there for years. Never had an issue.

I worked at the fire station right across the highway for six years. I don't ever remember responding to a shooting there, or even an assault.

The security is for real though. I've seen shoplifters handcuffed to the wall of the security office at Macys. Some of those people seemed to regret their choices.

My wife and I use to go to North Park for the day during the holidays every year (prior to kids) to shop and have dinner. I was hoping to take my girls (7 & 4) but after hearing all the news stories I've been apprehensive. We will go at some point.

If you're scared to go, or take your family, to NorthPark Mall, you may as well never leave your house because everything else in the world must be terrifying.

Our family goes a couple times during Christmas, have never seen anything remotely dangerous or sketchy. We are usually gone after a late lunch, but we typically don't stay anywhere once it gets crowded. Go early and leave early!

I'm not scared of anything but as a husband and father I'm very protective of my girls.

I've owned a landscape company for 20+yrs and my business has been broken into at least 10 times and my guys have been robbed on jobsites several times. Unfortunately this business has turned a extremely nice guy into a bit of hardass.

Have a great day!

Inside the mall is great. Food court can be crowded but Chick Fil A will do that.

Sometimes I've seen a line to get into Louis Vuitton. I believe it to be a big status symbol in certain circles. I don't get it.

There's not a ton of people around the Neimans, Eisman, Tiffanys end.

Security is everywhere inside and roams the nearby outsides in golf carts.

But- ask any of the security folks or your cop friends, be careful in the parking lots. Especially at night. I'd avoid any of the garages like that 2 floor on the east side.

Neimans used to do valet for free if you have a Lexus, no idea if that's still in place. Even if it's not, it's a good idea. The valet by Nordstroms and the movie/restaurant entrance on the north end can be a zoo at night and it's busy and you're parking all the way out by Park Lane means you are walking maybe one of the higher risk lots.

I like the restaurant on the 2nd floor of Nordstroms. Well that and Chick Fil A.

Still think NorthPark is a very nice mall. Any mall in the United States will have teenagers killing time and doing dumb stuff

Try living in an apartment overlooking the West End Station. Nice apartment. ****ty neighbors. Moved there after college and would sit at the window and watch the show.

Only time I've seen a friend in handcuffs was when my roommate and I walked to the convenience store to get beer and then jaywalked across the tracks on the way back. Cops were busting up some drug dealers and were in a bad mood, roommate got a little mouthy and the cop got mad, grabbed him by the arm, forced him to sit down and put him in handcuffs. Once they were done with us we started walking back to our apartment and 40 feet from the cops a guy started trying to sell us weed.

North Park has never given me ghetto vibes, but I also basically only go there for the Apple Store or movies.
