Thinking about it bc kiddo doesn't have school. Extra miserably packed for Texas OU or just normal miserably packed?

I'm talking about a long wait to even park
massive lines for everything
shoulder to shoulder
if you really want to go just take your kid out of school on a random weekday

Last year when we went, local kids from Oak Cliff/South Dallas/etc were creating panic by yelling "shooter" and causing a stampede throughout the park. Happened 4-5 times where we were, and could hear it happening elsewhere.

Downside of the neighborhood around the fair; not worth going to anymore.

Thanks that's what I figured. As for pulling a first grader from school, can I be honest or call in sick? Knowing she'll tell her teacher and friends she went to the fair.

I've gone immediately after the tu/OU game a couple of times and it was reasonably empty.

Be honest. It's your kid. What are they gonna do? If you were doing it all the time it might be a problem.

Be honest. My wife is a kindergarten teacher of 20yrs in a upperclass area of fort worth and parents will just flat out tell her that they're taking their kid out of school for a week or more either to go to disneyland or skiing, etc.

Honestly the fewer kids my wife has, the better.

Is Monday, post RRR, typically dead? That's when we're headed there thanks to the kids having the day off.

If your kids are out of school (mine are too), then it'll probably be crowded.

So a kindergartener misses a week to go to skiing with parents? Does that mean they will miss a week of naps and training on coloring inside the lines? No wonder SAT scores are dropping.

Upper class Fort Worth is going to the dogs.

I was hoping that we would be the only ones out of school, I guess I'll prepare myself for the pain of overcrowding and overpricing.

Can confirm. You don't walk anywhere. You just shuffle along with the crowd.

Also in the "never again" group myself

Let me ask you something: if the parents were homeschooling the kid, would you feel the same way?

Private schools would likely never allow this sort of thing. Public schools would most likely take any excuse.

As long as the parents are in control of the kid's education, frankly, it isn't going to matter much. If this occurs several times a year it might be different. My wife, who teaches, is out this Friday and Monday, and kids are out Thursday (tomorrow as of this post). Assuming the district didn't have a policy against my wife taking off days around stated "holidays," I would be tempted to have the kid miss Tuesday and Wed. of next week for a full week going somewhere.

If that bothers you, I understand. But it no longer bothers me. Parents are going to show apathy toward their kids' education in a greater way than this IF they truly don't put it as a priority.

Same. Did it on the Monday that every kid in the DFW had off and it was packed and miserable. My kids are 9 and 11, prime fair ages, and if I asked them right now if they want to go to the fair, they would say "Nope. We're good." It was that miserable.

If I had to do it again, as mentioned, I would pick a day in the middle of the week while most people are at work/school.

I'll repeat it was miserable. Getting off the interstate at 9am was miserable. Took an hour to get to the gate. I'm highly advising avoid it. Go during the week when others are in school.
