Don't know the demographics of Prosper (and too lazy to read the posts above which probably explain them) but I was surprised by the outcome just because this stuff usually passes in wealthy DFW burbs.

it was kind of shocking, especially when Prop A was the... 2nd largest bond approved EVER, only behind a massive DISD one.

I think people just kind of got fed up with the prices and seeing the new High School plastered all over the interwebs (Walnut Grove HS was on ESPN when it opened).

It's definitely a district that cares about sports and, well, everything.

Property taxes are doing a number to people out here. Paying 20k+ taxes on a house that was around 10k 3-4 years ago is a lot to stomach.

Also, we have a lot of anti-gubmint crazies moving here. The Kalifornians we get are nutjobs - like ivermectin, homeschool my kids.. but also super feminine and soy boys... weird crowd.

In 5 years when we have a bond proposal for a $95 million cricket stadium I'm sure it will pass.

I've got a buddy whose backyard butts up against Bloomdale.. He bought there back in 2015... He's so fkin pissed. None of that will get built for a decade but it still kills the prop value.

Probably the same neighborhood since there is only one on Bloomdale. We've been there since 2020. Knew it was always going to grow up around us, but I could live with other developments. Just not a 8 lane highway. Not really looking to move because leaving that sweet 2% mortgage would be dumb.

He's in the same boat. House has probably gone up 50-60% in value and he's invested some $$ in covered patio and what not...

He does still call it McKinney.. that'll change once his kids are in school. lol.

Damn. Walnut Grove is nice…

Spend money on everything except the actual education
That's the unfortunate reality of our world. We all love playing and watching sports, but we've probably been screwing our future country over by dumping all our money into sports (football) like we have been.

There's a ton of money invested in this school for vocational type work. Commercial cooking classes and kitchen (kids cook and serve meals at lunch). Auto body shop. Technology. Tv broadcasting, etc.

Big time programs (which PHS has been for some time now), don't play on Saturdays or Thursdays, IMO. Black eye for PISD athletics.
Just saw this comment - thought this was an odd statement.

Duncanville, DeSoto and Aledo ISDs all play Thursdays and Saturdays. A lot of other "big time" programs do that when the number of schools exceeds the number of stadiums.

Yes, having one stadium for four 6A high schools is pretty short sighted - no doubt. But there are some ISDs that have 5-6 schools sharing two stadiums. It's just the way things have got to be in any multischool ISD.

Pretty sure McKinney is Th-F-S for their 3 schools to use the stadium on 121 if they are all at home

Guessing the comment is saying that they don't play home games on Thursday/Saturday. Carroll plays plenty of Thursday games with the Keller/Northwest schools (and took a loss this season at Byron Nelson on a Thursday night FWIW).

I think everyone just got butthurt about spending money on a football stadium when "it doesn't do much for the community". Walnut Grove cost something like $300mm to build. If you've seen that school, and the plot of land it sits on (rolling hill down into flood plan - the east side of prosper is terrible for building - not flat at all), you'll know why it costs that.
There are multiple posts above yours with legit reasons people voted this down aside from being "butthurt".

Duncanville, DeSoto, and Aledo are all 1-high school districts. They rarely play on Saturday except during the playoffs. Duncanville and DeSoto have played on Saturday before for certain non-district games, as Duncanville did this year against Rockledge and a couple of years ago against the national Florida academy that travels all over (can't think of their name off hand). DeSoto has played a South Dallas foe (Bishop Dunne a few years ago) in a showcase game on Saturday, but both instances are rare.

When they play on Thursday, at least at home, it is due to TV as UIL doesn't allow live TV broadcasts on Friday nights but does on Thursday. Duncanville played twice on Thursday this year, both late in season district games (Dallas Skyline and Mansfield Legacy).

At any rate, Saturday football is coming sooner rather than later and it isn't a stadium issue. Officials groups are losing numbers and pretty soon won't have enough to cover varsity games on Thursday and Friday alone. At first, JV games will move to Wednesday -- even for those schools who play varsity games on Friday. Later, they'll have to move varsity games to Saturday, likely smaller schools first but larger schools will follow.

There's no need to keep building stadiums. With home/road games each week, 4-5 schools can easily share even 1 stadium with up to 4 potential games a week with Thur/Fri and 2 on Sat like some in Houston do now.

Ready for those Monday freshman games?

You touched on a great point - the officials shortage is what will end up driving things. I have friends who started officiating THIS YEAR and were working 5A/6A games pretty much right away. The crews are desperate for another guy.
