For the record I'm a gringo tex max guy. Good nachos, enchiladas and tacos.

Muchacho wasn't great for us but I have friends who love it.

MiCocina is our go to.

Chuy's is solid.

Austin Taco House is more hole in the wall.

Fajita Pete's has awesome steak fajitas. Not sure what they put in that steak but it's awesome.

If you like tamales and don't mind a more limited menu compared to the typical tex-mex restaurant then give Tommy Tamale a try. Best restaurant tamales in D/FW and beyond. They have a Grapevine location.

Tommy Tamale definitely awesome for tamales.

Mi Dia is fanstastic. I avoid their traditional tex-mex (enchiladas, chimichangas, etc) and go for their grilled steaks with red/green chili and either a relleno or stacked enchilada. The standard tex-mex staples aren't bad at all, but they don't set Mi Dia apart from others.

Edit: Tobert's in downtown Grapevine is pretty cool. Famous for their chili. The original Tolbert founded the Terlingua Championship Chili cook-off and supposedly this is the original recipe from that time. The rest of the menu looks like Chili's back in the early 80's when it was first getting moving. That is not a bad thing. Fajitas, tacos, burgers, CFS, etc.
Staff - take out the trash.

Moved back here around the same time and have the same question. I'm looking for a good, greasy spoon, hole in the wall place. Nothing fancy, but somewhere with a Wednesday night Enchilada dinner.

Ferah is not Mexican food. It is Mediterranean food with some tex-mex fusion. My wife and I really like it, but don't expect tex-mex or mexican food.

ETA: If y'all are willing to go to Keller try Maria Cuca's
Also Jalapeno's is good. They are a hole in the wall place that a family from (I believe) Mexico City owns. I like their breakfasts a lot.
Love Esparza's in Grapevine. Grew up eating there pretty regularly. Mi Dia is really good as well.
If you are from the Houston area and Missing Lupe Tortilla there is one on 35W between North Tarrant and Heritage Trace.
In the HEB area there is an Abuelo's. They have some good combo platters that can feed 2 people easily.

Esparza's is excellent and has been around for a long time.

We always go to La Hacienda Ranch when we are in that area. My folks still live over there and they love that place.

This is the challenge. Being surrounded by new wave Mex Mex places with margarita menus and veggie enchiladas for $$$$

Exactly. I like that stuff, but what I really want is a place like Eduardo's, which was a texmex place in Hurst that I grew up going to in the 80s and 90s. There's gotta be something like that in Euless or Bedford still. I probably need to just start trying some random places.

Austin Taco House. Only problem (well not really a problem I don't think) is that they open when they open and they close when they close. Honestly I think in the evening it depends on what activities their kids are doing.

Nice family owned joint, although they do seem to have some other workers now besides their family.

Gotta love a place you can walk into in the morning and they'll ring up your order and yell at the cook to get started before you make it to the register.

For dinner I do the Tampiquena. But damn their salsas are so good…. I may need to get some breakfast there in the morning.

Their chorizo is excellent as well.

Maybe a little too casual for what you are looking for but Grapevine as some good taquerias; Taqueria Burritos Locos, Los Amigos and Taqueria El Campeon are good options that I have hit over the years but there are several more.

Pretty sure taquerias are forbidden here in Southlake

The taco cowboy food truck in euless is good (it's pretty new maybe the last 6 months) and so is Frezko taco. Not too far from grapevine/southlake

We found out that after Eduardo's closed.(we loved that place too) that Eddy became the manager at the Pulido's on Precint Line. We have been there a few times and it has the same feeling. He even has some of the same staff from the his place working there.

Anamias used to be in our rotation. Went way down hill, IMO and we replaced with Mesero. Love it, go couple times a week, and would probably only go to Mi Dia, and occasionally La Hacienda/Uncle Julio's at this point of others mentioned.

i went to the new Anamia's in Prosper last week. it was just okay.

I'll probably give it 1-2 more times, but otherwise I don't see the benefit over the options. I think glorias, mi dia, and mi cocina are all better.

Yesterday I went to the very generically named Taco Shop, that opened not to long ago. It's on Carroll in the strip center with Joe's Pizza.

Was impressed with the breakfast taco and need to head back for lunch. Definitely the kind of place that seems geared towards pulling in work crews.

Seems like a good replacement for my Hermanos Brothers Taqueria in the Texaco station that just vanished a few years ago.

I went to Pulido's last night and it was great - exactly what I remember from Eddy's. I had actually been there back when it had a different name in the early Aughts. Thanks for the recommendation/reminder!

Taqueria burritos locos for cheap spoon taqueria style.

Mi Dia for a nicer night out but there is always a wait. The carne asada, the salsa, the ox eyed enchiladas all delicious. We also like their fajitas to go as they feed us for a couple meals.

Esparza's is my favorite grapevine happy hour location for their "famous" margaritas
