Bill's Shortest Election Guide Ever May 2023 Edition!
Voting starts Monday the 24th and Election Day is Saturday May 6th. Only 3 items on my ballot, but they are important. So education yourself and go vote!
Dallas Mayor: Eric Johnson. In a move that surprised many (none more so than certain conniving city councilmen…but that's a different story), Johnson opted not to pursue an open US House Seat to stay mayor. And he's running unopposed. Johnson isn't without his faults but has been a really good mayor. I'm happy to have him around (please be around Mr Mayor) another four years.
---
City Council Place 10: Kathy Stewart. Hottest race on the ballot is to take the baton from 4 term councilman Adam McGough. There are 4 people in this race. 3 have staked their spots by partisan identity (1 left, 2 right), bringing both the good and bad from said identities with them. I appreciate Brian Hasenbauer's focus on poverty/homeless concerns (and frankly, Brian has worked his butt off this campaign); I appreciate Chris Carter's focus on the very real financial concerns, especially the city's bond issues. But both are way extreme on other issues for my taste. And Sirrano…well.
Enter Kathy Stewart. I think Kathy has the perfect blend of experience, temperament, and connections to do a good job filling Adam's shoes (a very difficult chore for anyone) and collaborate with council to make sure D10's needs are met. She has my full support.
---
RISD Place 6 At-Large: Eric Eager. Eric, the incumbent, is my pick in this 2 horse race. Eric is an extremely nice guy, brings a calm temperament to the (unfortunately) crazy landscape of school politics, and has the respect of his peers on the board. Given the high levels of change in RISD in recent years, having some consistency would be a good thing.
Until next time friends…happy voting.
