I'm going to the Dallas International Guitar Show Saturday, May 6th at the Dallas Market Center.

They get a special rate at the Renaissance Hotel which is right across the parking lot. But frankly even with the special rate that's more hotel $$$ than I need considering I'm not going to be with the family, I'm just there for one night, and just need a no-frills place to crash.

So I was looking at other basic hotels in the immediate area (Comfort Suites, Quality Inn, etc) but some of the reviews are sketchy.

I'll also be going by at least two Guitar Centers in North Dallas as well as a store called The Toneshop in Addison on Friday. So I'm pretty sure the thing to do is post up in Addison, just off of the Dallas North Tollway northwest of the Galleria Mall area.

I've been around there a few times and the impression I get is it's mainly a lot of retail and commercial areas. I'm assuming the chances of panhandlers, random flashmobs/protests, or other shenanigans is much less likely than around the Market Center.

What do you think?

Long time DFW resident. I learned long ago in business travel that proximity is everything so I'd choose the Renaissance. Yes, it's more urban but not in an area I consider unsafe. Just be aware of your surroundings as you should anywhere.

Hotel central in Addison is Belt Line and NDT. Good area with plenty of nightlife and restaurants.

Thanks for the info. That's exactly where I was looking.

I've set my parents up in the Home2Suites in Addison before. It was really nice, quiet, and affordable. My folks have stayed there several times and they would not go back to a place based on cost alone if they didn't get a decent nights sleep.

My company used to have people stay at the Hyatt House Addison because the rooms all had kitchens and people would be staying for a week or two at a time. Not sure what the rate is now but it was pretty inexpensive and reasonable to walk to plenty of restaurants.

When I was living in Addison, my mom would stay here when she came to visit - Holiday Inn Express - pretty new, and she's not the type that will go back to a hotel if it isn't up to her standards.

There are quite a few limited service hotels in Addison.

I appreciate all the recs. Unfortunately it's looking like I may have to cancel my plans.
