Went to Pecan Lodge today. Here are my rankings:

1. Macks BBQ in Fate (near Rockwall)
2. Meshacks BBQ in Garland
3. Pecan Lodge
4. Hank's in McKinney
5. Bone Daddy's in Richardson (brisket is better than you would expect)
6. Hutchins BBQ in McKinney

Lockhart Smokehouse (either location) should be your very next stop.

Peggy Sues in Dallas (near SMU) for brisket and sausage. I haven't had their ribs but the rest is as good as I've had in DFW.

Koffing, I've heard good things about Hard Eight in Coppell.

Hard Eight in Coppell is terrible. Original one in Stephenville is pretty good but this one is bad. Everything has been really dry and I have been 3-4 times. Not a fan at all

He was distracted by the wait staff. But, seriously, the brisket has a nice smoke ring on it. And the servers are hot...

Never been, only what I've heard from coworkers. I appreciate the heads up though. That being said, I was commenting to the guy asking about Irving bbq and not necessarily the "best of the metroplex" which I still think is a complete crok and most of those places pay top dollar to be on them.

I honestly are there the first time years and years ago shortly after it opened. Either the wait staff wasn't hot then or I simply didn't notice them. I went back bc the BBQ was above average for the area.

Finc,
This is not a list like best cardiologist in Dallas, etc. Vaughn's list is legit. Of course everyone has their own opinions but this is not a paid list that you read in American Way or the like.

My issue with most of the BBQ joints in DFW (minus Pecan Lodge) is that they trim off or scrape off the bark. I like it crispy and spicy and Pecan Lodge delivers on that.

Where do I eat BBQ?

(1) Lockhart
(2) Pecan Lodge - a lot more trouble and wait
(3) Rudys - while not nearly as good as the other two, it is not bad and convenient.

While not a straight-up BBQ joint, Smoke in Oak Cliff is a good stop.

Easy solution...tell them not to. I do this all of the time. "So you want the fat?" You're damn right I do.

I'd add Billy's Oak Acre as a top one, at least to the west. Also have heard good things about BBQ on the Brazos in Cresson, but have not been.

I like Lockhart a lot. Their smoke camp is excellent too. Pricey though. Meshack's has some of the best ribs I've ever had.

Rick's in Garland (right by Raytheon) is a good cheap lunch type place.

Billy Oaks in West Fort Worth wasn't too bad. Tried the ribs, haven't tried anything else yet.

I'd like to suggest Landers BBQ in Princeton. Just opened up a few weeks ago.

Mine too, very dry meats at Hard Eight.

Anybody been to Pecan Lodge since they reopened in Deep Ellum?

Bonedaddy's is laughable for BBQ. The tits are great though.

With the amount of people saying Lockhart Smokehouse, I need to go again. I must have been on a really bad day because the only thing good was the sausage and they import that from Kruez.

I know they've been fighting the pits in Plano to get them to work like they want. I'll typically ask the pit boss what he recommends that day.

Bone Daddy's in all seriousness has one of the best burgers in Dallas IMO.

Back Country is the epitome of mediocre to me. A lot like Dickeys. I only eat is because the owner is a grad from my HS and a big Aggie fan. Every time I go to Bone Daddy's their brisket has had a good smoke ring and solid flavor. Definitely above average for Dallas IMO.

I went to Pecan Lodge in Deep Ellum. Not worth the hype, money or the wait. Brisket was good, nowhere close to great. Ribs and sausage were average at best.
