What's the best place to buy a really nice suit? I'm willing to go out on a limb and spend some decent $.....I'm wanting something more modern though. Can I avoid pleats???

I just went through this and went w/ Culwell & Sons. It'll probably be more traditional than you want, but they can do anything.

2 Suits, 3 shirts for $2,100, plus will get another shirt for free w/ their rewards program.

Lombardo gets a lot of press, and they do a lot of the suits for athletes, the media, etc...

There are some custom suit makers in like Q Custom Clothier, J Jilburn, DJones.

Where are you located? I highly recommend the Man's shop on Arlington.

Friend of mine and good Ag runs his own business that does custom men's suits in Dallas. His name is Drew Jones, and his company is D.Jones Tailored Collection.

Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale starts in a week or so and I picked up a nice suit from there during last year's sale. $800 suit for $450ish I think.

I moved up over the years from Dillards to Jos A Bank to J Hilburn. Custom is the way to go and it doesnt even come close. $700-900 for a suit but well worth it

Another vote for Culwell. I've got a few from there, and the're great. They also have selections that are a little less traditional, so you have flexibility there.

My sister has been a J Hilburn rep for a few years -- she's near Preston & Walnut Hill but goes all over the area.

chn4, let me know if you want her contact info.

I've bought a suit at Ken's Man Shop at Preston & Royal. Great suit and nice material. Good cut as well with slimmer lapels.

D.Jones is a great company. My husband has quite a few suits from them and you can go as trendy or as classic as you like. Half the Rangers starting line up (Elvis, Nelson, Leonys, etc) and a few Astros, as well as Emmitt Smith, are happy clients.

My wife is with j hilburn. We are in North Dallas area. Email me austinrb1 at yahoo if you would like an introduction. She's class of '98.

I was the Nordstrom/Neimans follower until getting the semi custom clothing. Amazing the difference in quality, but more so the way it fits/looks.

I agree!! Great selection and great help!!

Jos.A.Bank is OK. Kinda expensive though.

I will say this. A certain representative of the Tom James company spoke at a company breakfast one day and raffled a custom made dress shirt (up to $150) and I was lucky enough to win it.

Said person visited my office to measure me and said the shirt would be ready in 4-6 weeks. This was March. Not responded to my attempts to contact in more than 2 months.

VERY bad customer service. My opinon, don't buy from Tom James

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I will def look into these.

If I needed a nice suit within 3 weeks, can I rent a good suit somewhere and do the custom thing afterwards?

For such a quick turnaround, your best bet is to go buy one off the rack and ask for rush tailoring.

Went to Saks 'Off Fifth' this weekend and got two Hickey Freeman's for $750. Take to Unique Tailor, ready in about 4 days.
