For me it's Eddie Deen's Crossroads in Arlington. It's on Collins caddy corner from the stadium behind the Panda Express.

The ribs are consistently the best I've ever had and the brisket has always been solid.

BBQ is like women though and everyone is going to have different tastes.

Eddie Deens has the best ribs I have ever had in my life.

Cousin's has the best brisket and sausage.

Railhead has the coldest schooners and a good atmosphere but their bbq is pretty average.

Feedstore BBQ in Southlake is pretty decent.

I miss J Cody's in Bryan. It's still my fave.

Smokey Johns on Gaston is pretty good for Dallas barbeque. Anybody else been there?

The BBQ in [insert city name] sucks.

But the BBQ in [insert city name] is awesome.

I don't think anyone that lives in DFW and has been to other cities in Texas is going to argue DFW is lacking in the BBQ arena....we are in a bad way. There are some decent spots, but I can't help but compare to my time in Houston, B/CS, Austin area and realize there are a lot better places than anywhere we have in the metroplex.

I disagree.

And you've piqued my interest. To what BBQ place in bcs are you referring?

Hard 8 is decent....their stuffed japs are fantastic.

Lord, no kidding.

I would argue that Angelo's can hang with Salt Lick, Cooper's, City Market, or any other overrated nostalgic BBQ joint in the state.

I would suggest reading this blog. It is a great resource and he is pretty much dead on with what is good BBQ.

Best I've had in the Metroplex was Baker's Ribs in downtown D. Everything else has just been bleh compared to what I'm used to.

Heard Baker's Ribs is solid. Yet to try it. Never heard of Eddie Deen's. Heard good things about Mike Anderson's on Harry Hines, I believe.

I really miss Fargo's in Bryan. Excellent cue. Damn good mixed greens too.

The best I've had is Texas pit in Saginaw. Feed store in southlake is pretty good. Neither can hold a candle to the places around Austin, which I only discovered a few months ago.

I've had Angelo's but other than that I havent been to any of the others mentioned.

The Kruez family has a placein Dallas now. Its clearly the best but expensive. And I try to stay west of 360.

Nothing great, but here are a few acceptable things...

Frito Pie at Sonny Bryan's
Ribs and Baby Back Rib Shack in South Dallas
Bodacious in Arlington near the ballpark (Same as the chain through East Texas, though not quite as good...but it works)

Has anyone been to Hickory House on Riverfront near the jail? I go past it when I'm headed to Fuel City, but I've never been in there. Looks pretty rough from the outside but seems like the sort of place that would be good.

I went to Bakers Ribs once in Deep Ellum and thought it was really solid.

I ate at the Lockhart BBQ (Kreuz) off of W. Davis and was NOT impressed. Won't be back. I was stoked to find it but left thinking it reminded me nothing of Hill Country BBQ.

Lucky's in Bishop Arts is supposed to be good
Odom's is good (especially the BBQ baked potato)
Hard 8 in Coppell is good (mmm, brush poppers)
The pulled pork and sandwich (not to mention the CFS) at Peggy Sue's is good.

My favorite is probably Hutchins BBQ in McKinney. It's very solid. Great chopped brisket.

Man, I agree 100%. Big miss. The guy told me that they transport in their sausage from Kreutz's, but I'm calling BS. The stuff at Lockharts was greasy as hell.

Nowhere close to Black's or any of that classic hill country bbq.

I do like me some Peggy Sue's, but that is where I grew up eating bbq so I am a bit biased.

RE: B/CS bbq, we found a hole in the wall pit once that was great. Can't remember the name though.

I sometimes wonder if there is some sort of environmental difference between Austin and here. Like the humidity/heat content plus some other random factor is in play.

I too ate at Lockhart BBQ in Bishop Arts a couple of weeks ago and it was horrible. I felt like offering a week of my time to show them how to at least make a semi flavorable BBQ. Not that I'm an expert but it was downright bad.

if anyone tells me that the brisket at Rudy's sucks because you know something more remote and simply better because Rudy's is a chain, kiss my ass.

While there meat is hit or miss IMO, Rudys has one of the best sauces out there

Peggy Sues.

Hard 8 is WAY overrated. Tough meat and lousy sides. Bakers is nothing more than slightly above average. Probably better than most (depending on location -- there are 2 or 3) and good for lunch, but don't go there thinking its great.

I don't get the Angeloes/Rail Head attraction. To me, its pot roast and not brisket. Haven't tried the ribs, though, so they may be good.
