I think what this thread really illustrates is how much better Fort Worth is that any where else.

I think The Cattlemans might have gone downhill after the Ewings stopped eating there. J.R. used to keep them on their toes.

Again, if you want something a little different that a typical steakhouse, Eddie V's is really good. Order a carpet bagger off the menu. It's a filet topped with fried oysters and bernense (sp?) sauce.

I just thought I'd post again since I started this.

We couldn't get reservations at Lonesome Dove for six. Valentines day crush, which was a problem all over FW Saturday night. I was put on a waiting list for an early time. I instead booked a table at Silver Fox.

LD actually called me to say they had a table, but reminded me they were only offering a six course Valentines Day menu for $82 per person. The entree choices were good, but I didn't want to spend $82 per without drinks and tip.

We at at the Silver Fox. We had an excellent meal and great service. Three tenderloins of different sizes, a bone-in ribeye, a pork chop, and rack of lamb ordered. All were excellent, and cooked exactly as requested (all but the pork was medium rare). Expensive, but very nice and unlike the cookie cutter premium steakhouses it is not ala carte. The desserts were just average, the only minor disappointment.

BTW - I have eaten at Hofbrau. I would say it is an affordable but average steakhouse - in the range of a Saltgrass. No close to a USDA Prime steakhouse.

Eddie V's disappointed. Everything was great EXCEPT the steak. And then the valet lost our keys.

We spent $300 at Eddie V's (four of us, appetizers, wine and desert) while we went to Cat City Grill Sat night and spent $125 for a much better steak IMO.

Love Reatta as well.

Eddie Vs in Austin is consistently excellent, both seafood and steaks. I'm surprised your steaks weren't good. What was wrong with them?

Had to send both mine and my wife's back for being undercooked (and she eats hers med raw) and we also ordered the special with the lobster. It was almost cold when it came out.

Service was almost non-existent.

I have to admit, the couple we went with said it was great, and recommended we go there. They still swear by it today. Maybe we picked a bad night.

Appetizers and sides were great though.

Eddie Vs is the only place I have been that has calamari worth eating.

I think your experience must have been unusual. I hope they treated you right when you sent the food back. If they "make it right" the 2nd time I'm OK with it.

I liked the calamari at Ruth's Chris and Chef's point. Another one that really surprised me is Uncle Julio's....okay, back to steak.

Bob's -- good
Ruth's Chris -- okay
Del Frisco -- good
Sliver Fox -- okay
Al Biernet -- meh
Hoffbrau -- Meh, meh, meh.

Lambert's is my favorite restaurant in FW. Great filet, excellent prime rib. Great atmosphere and not a cookie cutter steakhouse. Check it out!
