I currently live in Houston by my parents and SO live in DFW...

Im not really sure of the kind of dog that I want, but I am leaning towards adoption. Suggestions for adoption places?

we got Butch and Cassidy at the Fort Worth Humane Society on Lancaster.

Cassidy is too hyper, but Butch is a really, really good, sweet dog.

If you like Cocker Spaniels, my wife got our dog from this group:

I've had 2 Boxers through Boxer Rescue:

They were great, and both boxers have been wonderful. As a breed they are great with kids if that's in your future.

Second on Operation Kindness. We've had two great dogs from there -- also SPCA of Texas. They have locations near downtown Dallas and in McKinney. There are also lots of breed rescue societies in the area.

I got one of the best, smartest, sweetest, most well behaved, loyal, attractive, athletic dogs from the North Texas Humane Society on East Lancaster.

I know several other people who have done the same. That's a good place to start your search.

If you aren't breed specific, go to Operation Kindness. There is also Fuzzy Friends in Waco that is wonderful.

Honestly, I'd seriously consider Safehouse Rescue there in Conroe/Montgomery County area. Their dogs seem to be really well trained and socialized. They've been rescued from local pounds and shelters before they're euthanized, and they seem to get the best dogs from what I've seen and heard from others.

i went through petfinder.com and got hooked up with a place called Riff's Friends Dog Rescue. great place. not only is the adoption price reasonable, but they include a training program if you need it.

this is near the park cities, by the way. mockingbird and 75 area.

one last thing...

i HIGHLY recommend that anyone interested in a good dog consider a "mature" pet. i know everyone wants a puppy, and that's fine. but there are a top of good dogs out there that have a lot love left to give if you are willing to consider them.
