First and foremost, I'd like to thank those that chimed in on my inquiries regarding DFW golf courses. Without the valuable (more often than not) input from you guys, I probably wouldn't have stumbled upon The Tribute.

The tee boxes, fairways and greens were in fantastic condition. The one bunker I was in was in great shape too.

The layout was pretty fair all in all. The view was nice (just flat terrain as you would expect on a links course), although a few holes played adjacent to a lake.

Do not slice or hook your ball into the rough! 'Cause you'll probably not find it, and there are rattle snakes in that rough, so don't bother looking for your ball either.

I ended up losing 8 balls due to lateral hazards (which thankfully the course deems the fairway rough as lateral hazards). And 2 O.B. balls (the 16th, 17th and 18th holes have O.B. on the right side. Stupid penalties cost me 12 stokes!

All in all, I had a great time, and will probably drive up to the Metroplex to play The Tribute again.

(FYI - for those that live far from The Tribute. You can book a room somewhere The Shops at Legacy and stay there. It's only 12-15 minutes from The Tribute via automobile.)

Glad you enjoyed it. Even if I was playing Augusta National, I'd probably be ripping it if I'd taken 12 penalty strokes. "Dallas area golf courses" and "aesthetic beauty" don't really go together since there is little natural elevation change and not too many trees in the area either. As far as beauty goes, you have to be willing shell out huge $$$ to play Cowboys Golf Club.

On #1 and #18, I end up damn near aiming at the opposing tee box so that even the ugliest of blocks stay in play (I usually play a draw but the occasional blocked shot does bite me in the ass). Both holes are short enough that it doesn't really cost you much. 18 is driveable, but I'm happy with a short pitch short/left of the green. Last time I played there I chipped in for an eagle 2 on 18.

Glad you enjoyed it, it's definitely a great golf course. I played out there Sunday, it was really hot and there were practically no golfers on the course. We never waited on a tee box, and never had anybody wait on us.

Tribute is about 3 miles from my house, the only way that I could enjoy it more is if I sucked less!!

Was it windy out there today?

Good stuff.

Speaking of the shared fairway on 1 & 18. Does anybody remember the story of Ian Baker Finch and his yips w/ the driver (which forced him to retire)? He played the British Open one year and drove it OB to the left on #1. That would be left across the 18th fairway and OB!

The cost for me was $59 on July 3rd; however, it was 2:04 p.m. when I teed off.

There was not much wind the day I played.

The ~4 ft. pins DO affect the depth perception which in turn affected my ability to assess the yardage (where there was no marker nearby). This was most evident on the 18th hole. I blocked my 1st tee shot O.B. I hit my 3rd shot from the tee box and hit it onto the #1 fairway. I estimated that I was ~140 yds. to the pin. . . Boy was I wrong. My ball carried the entire green and ended up somewhere near the clubhouse.

I took my group 4:30 hours to complete 18 holes. That was primarily due to some slow ass group two groups in front of us who had two empty holes in front of them.

Full rates at The Tribute are $110/weekend and $75/weekday, but their twighlight starts at 2:30 ($69/weekend and $59/weekday) and you can get a coupon at golfq.com to make it effective at 1:30.

I played out there yesterday and opened my foursome up to 2 others.

Windy as usual...took me 2 holes to figure out I just needed to add an extra club and shorten my backswing to combat the extra 'breeze'. After tripling the first 2 I finished with an 84 and played from the tips for the first time out there.

I was probably in the foursome in front of you. We were being held back by the ultra-slow group on front of them. I teed off at 1:30-1:40 +/-

Just hit into slow groups, they will pick it up or let you play through. If not you can at least have a nice shouting match on the golf course
