I was thinking the other day about some of the cool places that I used to hang out at that are no longer around. Like,

Lulu's Bait Shack
The Velvet Elvis
The Regal Beagle (the original one where the HEB central market is now).

Man I have some fun and crazy memories from those places. Anybody else have any favorite Dallas hangout's that have gone by the wayside?

LuLu's was a great place. Several friends actually had some fun wedding showers there back in the 90's. Not that that would be why it's fun.

Yeah, I remember going there for the final night they were open. Apparently, the story was that some of the nicer establishments down there (like the Hard Rock) didn't like the bait shack. So they filed some complaints about a lack of parking that violated the city code, and instead of fighting it, Lulu's just decided to close down. It was $20 to get in and all the drinks were free. They were just trying to get rid of all the inventory. Me and a few friends got there are 6 p.m. and didn't leave 'till 2 a.m. Needless to say, it was quite eventful.

Green Elephant - know reopened, but hasn't been same since.
El Arroyo and Ben's 1/2 yard - 'North' Greenville (well nothing further to speak of).
EA closed about 4 years ago, Ben's about 9months?

TMI Time - At Ben's, stripped to undies impromptu at a bachelorette party - after my girlfriend at time kicked me out of car on way home from Sherman Ag Wedding.....

The Beagle. Had some good times there when I first moved to Dallas from A&M.

A few others:
Thin Room
Red Jacket (red square retro night on Sunday)
Green Room
Country 2000 (on Weds nights)

Ah yes, I forgot about the Thin Room. Probably should remember that one, especially since it's where I met my wife.

The newer Regal Beagle, just north of Lover's and Greenville, has been there probably 4-5 yrs, I think.

I see all the posts for Ben's half-yard house, but I remember when it was Mideval Inn. Great Times!!!

Anyone else from back in the day ever go there when they played the "Tilton Fart" video over the TVs and PA system there? Hilarious!!!!

Forgot about the Barley House, good call. When did that close? My wife and I first lived on Knox-Henderson when we first got married, and the Barley House was one of our favorites.

Medieval Inn...man, I knew I forgot another one. That was just down the road from The Basement. I still remember going to watch shows, my friends and others, at the basement then going over to the MI to have their cheese fries. Hey, ya'll remember their drinks called the BJ and Muffdiver??

Re: "Medieval Inn... Hey, ya'll remember their drinks called the BJ and Muffdiver??"

Yep... the wenches of Medieval Inn serving up Medieval BJ's... no hands allowed when consuming.

"Medieval Inn 7102 Greenville Ave. (214) 363-1114 For a fun "knight" out, enjoy an evening with "His Majesty" for a six-course royal feast served Medieval style--no silverware. The jester, minstrel, magician, innkeeper and the talented serving wenches all await you. A unique dining experience, indeed. Only minutes from downtown."

Barley House didn't close, just moved to the old Green Elephant location on Yale. Not near the same as the old location on Henderson with the worst f'ing toilet in Texas.

Glad someone mentioned the Cocky Crow on Knox where Crate and Barrel is now. About as big as a closet, but it was greatness.

Then there was Flip's down on lowest Greenville. One of the first places in town with the big variety of beer. Interesting pictures in the bathrooms too.

And then there was the microbrewery revolution in the early '90s with Breckinridge Brewery, Yegua Creek, etc.

Adding an additional $0.02: Tijuana Yacht Club (believe it was on the SW corner of Lovers and Greenville)... pure early 90s cheese ;-)

Anyone remember the vinyl car seats in/around the bar? No one sat in those things... they were all cracked (like they were straight out of a '80 Camaro.
