Folks,

Our 1.5 year old is really struggling with daycare, about to hit a month in. Long story short, we're looking at other potential options. Any recs for either a nanny-share, or situation with nanny taking a few kids at their home?

A few things, Dad can stay home too, some of our wives do things that are even more important than raising our children, if your child ever has to go to the children's hospital, I promise you want my wife there.

Now to the topic at hand, I'd give it a bit more time, where are y'all at now? I can recommend a few in Central Austin that do a great job. If you pull them out now, kindergarten wont be easier in 3.5 years. If you go the at home daycare route do your research, because they can be a recipe for disaster with limited oversite. A good nanny is central Austin is going to command $25-$35 per hour and will likely want sick days and vacation days. A nanny share is going to set you back atleast $2400 per month not to mention the hassle of dealing with other parents directly and dealing with the nanny's comp, schedule, performance ect.

Keeper - thanks for the note, appreciate it.

Backstory - daughter never took the bottle so that forced us to get nanny for the first year+. Started her at daycare at 17 months old, and like I said it's been about a month. She's still crying at drop off, not really eating, very short naps, cries when mom picks her up. It's been tough on her.

We're at St. Martin's on 15th and Guad. We really like the place and the teachers are fine enough from what we can tell, but she just got so used to being home and attached to mom, she's struggling being away.

Our previous nanny was $20/hr but we got so luck to find her. She was previously an au-pair from Brazil.

Good point on the nanny share - could be a real pain with different homes, parents, etc.

I know the owner of Nanny Poppins (I think that is the name) i can ping her.

We were at Upbring for a while and were considering St. Martin's when Upbring closed. St. Martin is a good school. We are members of the church.

We send/sent all 3 of ours to St. George's now at Airport and 35 and its an incredible program. I would suggest doing a tour at St. George and speaking to Jerri Thompson, I am not sure how long the waiting list for the 18 month old class but get on it just in case you decide to move.

St. George is extremely professional and the teachers are highly trained. They require a much higher level of education and on going training than most schools. Our oldest needed OT and speech therapy, which he was able to get at St. G and the therapies were reinforced by his teachers and all staff who interacted were aware of his care plan. He starts elementary this year and you wouldn't even notice that he ever needed those therapies. The teachers at St. G will be able to recommend whether or not you should consider an OT eval.

The scope and sequence is custom for St. G and influenced by Erik Erikson psychosocial developmental stages. Psychosocial-development

The outdoor spaces are purpose designed and super fun. The parent population is also very involved

I used Nanny Poppins and they sent great candidates, but given what you have said I'd consider getting more professional and educated help now, so that if there is a psychosocial issue that can start to be treated now

If you have room for Au Pair thats also a great option. We are considering one in addition to our day school because our work schedule can be somewhat inflexible
