Austin isn't so alluring anymore, which is good and bad...

I can't believe that the median home price in Austin was around $184K back in 2008. How things have changed!

I think a big part of the allure for many was how cheap the city was. We have some great things to do and used to have a good bit of character, but it's also blazing hot 5 months of the year and we don't really have much at all in the way of infrastructure compared to many cities.
It is a lot easier for people to trade some amenities or tolerate the heat when it's cheap to live here, but when it costs just as much or more than other cities, fewer and fewer people are willing to make those trade offs. I still enjoy Austin, but I can certainly see why many don't or wouldn't be enticed to move here now.

Detroit is on this list. ***king Detroit. Yes I know they've been really trying the past decade but just because you put a Wendy's in hearne doesn't make it awesome. List is bs and suspiciously has a high number of Michigan cities on it.

I moved in 2018. I love this city and everything it has to offer but I think I'm in the accepting phase where I know I ain't ever going to be able to own a house here.

Just looked over the list.
It has San Francisco (Land of the cold summers, sky high rents, & public defecation) ranked ahead of Austin.
Maybe the reason is because you can brazenly steal up to $950.00 worth of stuff & it's only a misdemeanor?

Also ahead of Austin: Ann Arbor Michigan. What? Maybe the person making the list visited Austin & Ann Arbor in late July & made the call. They certainly didn't visit those cities in January.

FWIW, this is just an arbitrary list that gets published every year. They have to mix it up or people just ignore them. It's kind of like football recruiting rankings.

Beaumont is on that list.....lmao

Other cities Detroit is ahead of:

-Orlando
-New York City
-Los Angeles
-New Orleans (an equal s*** hole but come on)
-Miami
-Las Vegas
