How are we feeling folks? I keep watching Fridays high temp drift colder and I know ERCOT says we have enough power but 3 days without power last year has me feeling skiddish. What weather models are you looking at?

Weather Underground has a vastly different high (32) for tomorrow than KXAN (24). I'm more worried about ice on our surviving palm trees and the replacement ones.

We lost 4 Italian cypress trees last year. They were beautiful. I am not replacing them until the spring. Losing plants and trees are my biggest concern with this storm.

Wife and I are supposed to travel from Bellville to Fredericksburg for a weekend getaway. Temps for Fredericksburg as of now look to stay at freezing, or below until Saturday afternoon. Will 290 be too dangerous to travel on, or is TXDOT able to keep it open safely? Been so long since I have been that way I can't remember how steep the roads are, bridges, etc.

The scariest thing about 290 are the other drivers.

Truth, 290 from Oak Hill to Dripping is dangerous on a normal day. There is some elevation coming out of Oak Hill and coming into Dripping but ot super steep. It might be a puckering drive though.

An ice storm is a more traditional Austin event, poor driving was always the risk in the past. But after last year now we worry about power, water, and even gas supplies.

Looks like roads will get slick and idiot drivers are your risk. If plants survived last year's event then this upcoming event, and no event, would ever take them out.

I think this was blown a little out of proportion due to last year.

I went out an hour ago to HEB just to get out of the house. Roads were fine...obviously wasn't gunning it 60 mph across bridges and what-not.

The car did need a good 15 min to soften the ice and a metal tape/float knife certainly didn't hurt.

i long for the good old days when we could have a couple of days of barely freezing weather without everything shutting down and everyone going beserk.

just got back from a run. there's a lot of ice in our neighborhood in RR, especially on some of the hills. Its probably navigable via car right now, but in a few hours, i think it might be a different story. There's a lot of water on the roads that will start freezing soon.

Same in the Lakeway area. Roads are just wet right now. I ran a few errands with no issues.

But it'll be bad after dark.

Nothing to report from Round Rock…so far. What folks don't remember or realize last year it was back to back artic blasts that kept temps so low so long. We should barely get above freezing tomorrow

100% correct. This is all done by Saturday when it's 45 or so. Or maybe even Friday when it's 38 or so.

Yeah, I'm up in RR.

Schools closed. Wife had telemedicine duties from home today but her practice in Cedar Park opens physically at 11am tomorrow. Hopefully the roads are decent by then.

Probably fine. No more stuff on radar and they should have the main roads salted by then.

Street in front of my cedar park house had ice on it in morning but by 4pm was 85% dry. Differs by road surface and no idea what bridges are like, but should be easily navigable tomorrow. Bridges and tree covered areas might still need caution

Not the ones I know.

Lots of good folks out here. A lot of Aggies too. And mostly very right leaning in their thinking!

Most folks west of 360 are pretty moderate/conservative. Just out voted by folks inside Austin

Nice. Cedar Park/Round Rock is good. See a good mixture of Ags within the sips. No crazy lefty's and no south will rise again people. All my representatives from state and federal are conservative. I'm just trying to live happily after the Army and I don't need anyone telling me what I should and shouldn't do any more.

Streets around domain all seem pretty icy. I wouldn't be able to get out of my driveway without at least 4wd. Although it is pretty steep.

In the past the Main Streets get the work but neighborhood one don't get anything. So getting out of the local hood is the challenge. Once out should be fine

Ground was warm and dry enough to melt and absorb most of the ice quickly. Only bridges might have been an issue, or a few particularly bad spots. This is nothing like last year.

Wife on the way to work in South Austin. Said the MoPac bridge was pretty icy but passable if going slow.

In Northwest Austin there were patches of ice, but very very few and you'd have to be driving really dumb to get in trouble. Slow for bridges and stay in the lane with the cleared tire paths.

I didn't see many signs of roads having been sanded, seemed strange.

It was easily drivable where I am in CP, if there are issues it will be on shaded sections of a road or on a bridge. But I had only very minor issues driving from CP to La Frontera area in RR (avoided toll road which always seems to ice easier than other roads). Pick the clearest lane, stay in the tire tracks on a bridge, no acceleration or braking when crossing over a small patch of ice that is unavoidable.
