Personally (vax'd) I hardly even think about COVID anymore except when I see stupid **** like my kid's school planning to limit attendance at our 8th grade basketball games to two fans per kid. Very annoyed at that crap and if AHP officially moved down to Stage 2 we'd have more ammo to argue against the two fans per player thing.

Not that we'll probably observe the 2 / kid thing anyway....

They just had a Q&A with APH on KXAN.

The explanation is; in summary "yes, our thresholds are met... but now we want to take into account a new factor into account that isn' t met. Also, too many unvaxxed now, the unvaxxed population is so high now that 5-11 year olds are eligible now. We want them vaxxed before Thanksgiving. Get vaxxed and we'll consider lowering the phase and giving you back your normal life. Thank you for cooperating and have a safe holiday."

Oh, also... booster up if you're eligible!

I understand updating things as science changes. This one annoys me though b/c its not like any of the above is new news. And seems to me that folks that were going to get vaxxed would have by now. Threatening to leave, or actually leaving, the stage artificially high likely won't change people's minds.

For the vaccinated: there is esentially no difference between 2 & 3. For the unvaccinated: there is no difference. Lately, I haven't been anywhere that required a mask, even entering and exiting. Yet the whining and clutching continues.

AISD is still requiring masks, and that affects a lot of people. Keeping levels artificially high, just cause, is pretty stupid. It's about the science, until it's not. Now it's just cause they want to keep it at a higher level.

We know who "they" are, and according to a Reuters story I heard today, polling says Americans have shifted their focus away from Covid concerns, and are wanting action on economic issues. For "them", that's bad news.

So you do your whatever you can to keep Covid an issue if you are "them".

I see the poor AISD kids trudge past my gym every morning headed for school. We've been in there working out this whole time with no masks and nobody cares about vac status, and we're adults that can actually transmit cases or get symptomatic cases.

Not one person at the gym this whole time has mentioned having a case of CoVID, let alone a serious one.

Any yet, these poor kids who are very literally at greater risk of harm from getting injured walking to school every day, or from side effects of the vaccines themselves than from CoVID infection, are still stuck wearing the effectively useless cloth masks to school every day fir what appears to be some weird cultish solidarity. I guess it makes the teachers feel safer, because it does nothing but cause needless problems for the students.

Any yes, the best available study data backs up my assertions.

The new metric is cases per 100000 population which the CDC is calling "community spread". If the number of cases is more that 0.05% of the population they deem the spread significant. If they number of cases is more than .025% of the population they deem the spread as moderate.

Moderate spread is deemed to be stage 2 by Austin. To move to stage 1 now the 7 day average active cases needs to be around 400. Think about how stupid that is for a second.

Worth remembering that these APH/Travis County clowns said this about 15 months ago, after we had mountains of real data on COVID's lack of impact on young people:

So for the last 30 days or so, about 13 people on average are being hospitalized for Covid in Travis Co. This is compared to about 80 per day in mid-Aug. I guess I'm missing this on the local news. Are we in Stage 2 or not? I still see half the people at the HEB with masks, I guess because they are not aware of the good news. (BTW, who gets face to face with other customers at the grocery store? The checkout folks at the register have plexiglass, so they are all good)

It will never go away in Austin. Just have to deal with it. Go to other parts of the state and it's business as usual.

the contrast between the HEB on whiteoak and 183 to the 2 HEBs on FM 620 is hilarious. the former i see about 25% masks. i went to the latter 2 yesterday searching for some stuff for NYE dinner. 75% masks. i guarantee 75% of the people in both of those stores like me are vaccinated. why are they still messing around with masks that do nothing.

You should try the Whole Foods at Lamar and 35th. Went in there for the 1st time in few years this week. Probably 90-95% mask. Plenty to be seen on the outside deck too.
