Would you be in Dallas, Houston, or SA? Let's assume no family or job ties you to any of them.

So I can live wherever I want in the world and I have to choose between San Antonio, Dallas and Houston? Are we taking city proper or their mountains of indistinguishable burbs?

Yeah. Just interested in which of the other three major metro areas in Texas people would choose and why.

Houston, most likely. If the three, it's at least closer to the beach, and to Aggie sporting events if you live on the north side.

Would have been in Houston for industry reasons if it werent for the better half, so Houston, but not really by choice.

Houston if you want food, culture (museums ect) proximity to the ocean

San Antonio for affordability, Tex Amex and better burbs

Dallas if you like shopping and high end dining

For me, probably the H but SA and Dallas are great as well, I've lived in all 3

I'm from Fort Worth but it gets too cold up there in Winter. I would pick Houston so I could live in Galveston again.

Never heard anyone mention Houston and the proximity to "the ocean."

Gun to my head, The Heights/Montrose area of Houston is just about the only other part of Texas that I could stand to live in. Can't stand the endless suburbia of Dallas and Houston. And SA.just no.

Love the idea of being a Texan to death. Always will. Just a lot of places in it that I don't want to live.

There are a few homes for sale in Montrose.

Wow.

I'd probably go NW San Antonio for it's proximity to some really nice areas (boerne/comfort/kerrville) and also can get to some really rural cheap hunting land pretty quick.

Gulf/ocean whatever it's not a 5 star beach but it ain't bad, the fishing is good and the beach bars have cold beer

I know. I was teasing.

People from out of state ask me if I go to the beach around Houston/Freeport or Galveston. I explain that it's not what they are thinking

None of the above.

They're all run by socialist idiots.

SA. I just find the town a lot more low key than the cities I have lived in TX (Hou, Dal, ATX). Its big enough to get whatever you want, but the traffic is low, and pace of life is slow, and you still get parts of the hill country.

Austin 2021 population/size - 1.01M over 327 square miles
FW - 930k over 340 square miles

Median age and gender splits are almost identical.

Both have good food and music scenes and a college presence. Austin wins the music scene, FW wins the food dining war (when you bring in the rest of the plex), and natural features and proximity to the rest of the state go to Austin.

FW has proximity to the rest of the metroplex (for better and worse) , much better airport and is more affordable

Austin has slightly warmer summers but much milder winters.

FW is more ethnically diverse

Fort Worth and Austin are basically the same city with different political leanings

Tarrant county leans slightly liberal 49.3% voted Democrat while Austin leans hard liberal with 71% going democrat.

Those are statistics from the census, Tarrant has a much higher black population than Austin and the other ethnicities don't quite make up the difference

I might be able to be convinced to move to San Antonio, but I'd likely just move out of state.
