Any suggestions? I know any courses that are halfway decent are typically crowded, but sometimes, even if it means playing a crappy course, I just don't want to have to deal with people in front & back of me the whole time. Also, any pricier courses that are less congested due to the fees?

It's always going to vary. I've had days at Lions Municipal that have been real fast and others that have been terrible.

Yesterday afternoon I played Avery Ranch for the first time and it was a horrible experience. Threesome in front of us was dogged slow, we ended up skipping 13 altogether and it was smooth sailing after that.

Try a late tee time, ~ 4pm, at Bluebonnet or Lions on a weekday.

Austin Golf Club

i used to jump on Teravista first out during the week. Breezed around the course but always bumped up against the grounds crew on half the holes.

Riverside is usually pretty good. Pace at Bluebonnet is also decent.



I Bleed Maroon and I Wipe burnt orange.

Roy Kiser or Bluebonnet are my go to courses.

Falconhead and Twin Creeks are usually not too crowded, they are more expensive.

Btron - Kiser is like playing golf with thousands of your best friends. A 5 hour round there is short...

Shadowglen in Manor has re-opened

Star Ranch out in Hutto is normally not too bad due to the distance out there. Great course too.

Highland and Lago Vista are prefect with not that much people either.

I recently did the same, and I'm taking lessons at golftec, in the golfsmith at 183/360. I've gotten a lot from it. Might be a good place closer to you, though, that I don't know of.

Haven't been in a while, but I've heard Crystal Falls is in great shape right now.

Bluebonnet used to be "The Home of the Four Hour Round". Now, 5 out there is good. IMO, Bluebonnet is the best value in Austin.

Played Bluebonnet for the first time last week. Not in great shape, and definitely not as good condition as Star Ranch was the last couple of times I've played.

Still probably a good value, given how inexpensive it is.

FYI, they are running a membership special at the moment. The tee boxes and greens are in great shape.
Fairway is still recovering from fires.

Lago Vista is great. Reasonable prices and never too crowded.

Highland lakes and Lago Vista--both these are AMAZING!!!!

For you gents who have taken lesssons locally what is the range in cost that you've found?

I am a lefty, and I have not been able to make the transition from my baseball swing to a solid golf swing. Major slice so I'm considering some lessons as well....

Xaggie, what do you know about the membership offerings at agc? Thought that place was strictly invite only. Did they open it up because of the fire?

I'm playing Spanish oaks as a prospective member next week because I'm thinking of leaving my current club and moving over there, so I'd be interested to learn what is going on at Austin golf club.
