Actually I'd prefer an Orvis store but I don't think I could sustain the place all by myself.
Of course, in Texags fashion, brimming with optimism, there are already folks on here commenting on what they'd rather have, or how there are no bodies of water here... Glad this board has the ear of our local leaders.

This is GREAT news for College Station and I can't overstate how significant I believe this is for Midtown.
When you look at everything coming together in this area, the bigger picture is pretty exciting.
Bass Pro Shops gives Midtown a true regional destination retailer. This isn't simply another store opening. Bass Pro has the ability to draw people from across the Brazos Valley and surrounding communities into this part of College Station.
And I think there's something else worth paying attention to here:
Major companies don't choose locations like this by accident. They study population growth, traffic patterns, demographics, rooftops, development pipelines and where they believe future demand is headed.
Bass Pro choosing Midtown says a lot about the future of this area.
And it's just one piece of what's happening here.
Immediately adjacent to Midtown, the planned new baseball and softball complex is projected to generate approximately 40,000 hotel room nights each summer. That's thousands of families coming into the area who will need places to stay, eat, shop and spend time between games.
Then look east toward Terafab and Gibbons Creek. That massive project has the potential to bring significant new employment, investment and development to the Highway 30 corridor, with Midtown positioned on the College Station side of that growth.
Put all of those pieces together:
Bass Pro Shops.
40,000 projected hotel room nights each summer.
Terafab and the emerging Highway 30 growth corridor.
Continued growth in south College Station.
That's a pretty compelling combination.
From a commercial real estate standpoint, this is exactly what you want to see: more destination traffic, more visitors, more rooftops, more investment and ultimately, more demand for restaurants, hotels, retail, entertainment and other businesses.
I've been excited about the future of Midtown for a while, but developments like this are starting to show just how much potential this area really has.

The messaging from the Councial meeting was pretty solid. They cant say its a done deal, but the messaging was quite a bit more solid than "in talks." The ball will start rolling with action items to make it happen in the coming council meetings.

If Odessa has one, College Station should have one too.
Thera are plenty of fishing spots around here. You just need to know where to go.
Frank Mihalopoulous with Corinth is an old dear friend. He did the Home Depot/Gateway development, the College Station Lowes as well. He is a very well connected and accomplished developer based in Dallas and has served College Station well. I expect no less from this proposed project.

I went in one time when they had some in-store sale and stumbled upon it. For some reason, I was attracted to a Winchester Super X2 Practical shotgun. It was like $700 but they had a $100 off tag on it plus Winchester had a $50 off hang tag. Plus Winchester also had a $100 rebate for certain guns and this was one of them. That was the first time I ever filled out a computerized 4473. For some reason I felt very uncomfortable using a computer to file my info.
I have never seen another of those guns.

The number of stores and restaurants that "failed" in Bryan-College Station that weren't part of a wider closure round/retraction/bankruptcy is a diminishingly small list. Of those, you have cases sometime where a bad location that causes one location to die and it reappears several years later to substantially more success (Bahama Buck's, Minuti Coffee for a few examples).

ETA I see there is now a new Scheels store in Cedar Park, just West of Hwy 183. Which is my annual route going to Mason County hunting. Take my money.
What do y'all think a fair over/under is for the amount taxpayer funded benefits councilfolks are planning on throwing Bass Pro's way? Hopefully given the bad press Bass Pro has been getting on these agreements the last 15 years it will be less than $5 million. But with the current crop of councilfolk, I suspect they are going to give away the farm.
