The city will sure send code enforcement after someone with an overgrown yard. Maybe they should be after whoever maintains Fitch?

Is it CoCS or TXDOT that is responsible?

The thing is, we shouldn't have to do their job. It's not hard to figure out what is needed when you come up with a plan to put medians everywhere. They all can't be that stupid, to where they come up with a plan for medians but don't think of maintaining them??

This has always irked me! These, and also the overpasses and bridges where so much trash, crap, blown tires, pieces of wood, tall weeds, etc. collect and never cleaned/maintained.

Edit: I just read some of the other posts.

Even if they had a deal with an outside company to maintain things, and it went south, there should be a backup plan in place that the parks and rec dept or some other dept will take care of it until another deal is found. Do that and I bet they won't drag their feet looking for another company with their own employees up their a$$e$ saying they don't want to do it anymore.

This post triggered many old memories. I can show you the exact post oak tree that Todd Fitch located a hawk tree nest. Team Fitch later named a street in honor of that tree and hawk in the Southwood Valley not far from the tree. Todd later removed one of the hatchlings and took it home. Wish I could say what became of it. I can assume his pop, William gave him the OK. I did the same years later from a nest we came across near our place south of town off Deer Park Road. Named it Ernie. When it got too large...she became Ernestine. We lived on Glade street in what was south CS at the time. She hung around and would return for chicken etc. Bee creek was once really nice..
There is only one narrative: The ETs Farsight is in contact with are the good guys. Not so regarding the faction of et OUR military is in bed with.

I'm wondering if the city staffer who recommended this company will face any kind of reprimand or heat of any kind after this black eye.

Looking at other recent CS debacles, my money is on "no".

It's called LOW BID....I am not sure why everyone is having such a hard time understanding this concept?? They weren't recommended and they sure as hell were not DEI.

They were low bid, couldn't do the job, so the city ended the contract and went to the next low bid contract. The other guys were fired! What else do you want the city to do?

And compile this with a VERY wet spring, it was a bad situation but it's just grass people! Now that it is all cut it probably won't grow back as we enter a long run of no rain. LOL

The other vendor's bid contained fewer mowings than the company that had done it previously.

SOMEONE should have had the common sense to realize that this would not work, that the number of mowings would not be adequate, and this would be a major eyesore.

If I cut the number of mowings at my house in half, and the weeds and grass get knee high, I'm going to get a visit from code enforcement and be fined, i.e., punished.

What I'm alluding to is that whoever is responsible for this did a totally piss poor job, giving the city yet another black eye, in many years of "awww, shucks" from the powers that be. Just like the person whose idea it was to put a Bitcoin mine next to single family homes with ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY….

THAT. Is what this townie is very, very tired of.

Im curious if the company ever came to mow? I never saw anyone but Green Teams mowing. And you are right. I watched the council meeting they awarded the bid. Most of council was concerned about them not being from BCS but had to award it anyway.

I found this from what the poster above. was it a "DEI" contract?

Federal and state owned entities being forced to have a certain portion of their contractors be from minority ran businesses has been a thing since long before DEI was a buzzword.

Quote:

Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) program was a Texas state initiative signed into law in 1999 designed to promote equal procurement opportunities for small, minority-owned, women-owned, and service-disabled veteran-owned businesses.

It is no longer enforced in Texas.

https://www.dfps.texas.gov/Doing_Business/HUB/default.asp

People don't know the half of it. When I was with A&M and did purchasing for one of the agency labs I had to make many calls and ask if the company contact if they had a minority or women that was part owner, otherwise I could not buy. Often when we bought copy paper what we bought was the worst that can be made. There's a lot more to making quality paper products than people might think. It jammed so much in the copier that we kept a trash drum next to the copier. I would estimate that over about a 10 year period we threw out about 25% of the paper and of course wasted 25% of the toner.

This was way before the 1999 stated above as I left A&M in 2000,

Heck of a deal, win the bid and then sub everything out. I bet that they don't even own a lawnmower.

Yes, people are probably overreacting to some tall grass. However, the city wants to build (and maybe operate) a convention center/recreaction center/baseball center/omni-center using taxpayer dollars while also dropping a data center half a mile from residential-zoned areas. If they can't get the mowing under control, how will they handle all those other things?

Ok, I'm doing an open records request for incircle on Monday.

I know someone could be renting the house, but here's the owner.

If you don't, I will.

Ill do it. I don't think anyone was for it, but they had to approve because it was low bid. I'm curious if they even spoke to the bidder? Who do the bids go to?

The Council voted separately on this consent item:

The Council voted 6-1 to approve a contract not to exceed $1.08 million with Incircle Management for city-wide landscape maintenance and mowing. Councilman David White voted against the motion.

I have been told that they had to approve by law because it was the low bid.

That being said, whomever set up the bidding criteria is an abject idiot, IMHO.

Yancy already said on the radio he was wrong about the vote and that White got it right. He's given a public mea culpa.

There was a lot discussed at the meeting. In hindsight, this should have been rebid and the guy who presented it was unprepared.

Too much to summarize but there were 6 bids. 1 from Bryan, 4 from College Station, and Incircle. They were evaluated on qualifications and experience, rates and references. They removed the location qualification this year to get more bids.

Tucker Gallagher was one of the 2 people who spoke that said, "when this company fails, we are ready". And council just said if they can't fo the job, we can fire them.

Yancy and McIlhaney were leery of approving them but just did to support staff. Only time Wrong opened his mouth was to 2nd the motion to approve.

I want to know if they ever showed up to mow or were paid any money.

Go to the 11 minute mark of the June 26, 2025 meeting.

Somebody mowed a big square in Edelweiss park (in the middle of the goal posts) this weekend. Not the first time this has happened but I guess somebody got tired of waiting.... Interesting that the soccer fields at Backmann park are closed....

Speaking of Fitch, what entity is working on the section between RP and 30? They have a temporary signal for the one-lane stretch, but today, there were FOUR trucks that came through well after the light changed to green. If I hadn't been paying close attention, I would have entered into a situation with a dump truck. Not all of the trucks appeared to be project-related, either. There was no human involvement in the signal management.

I don't think the COCS contractor maintains the fields; I think that's Parks and Rec (I could be mistaken though).

If a person did it so kids could play, I really don't blame them. It's a shame that the perfectly good soccer fields at Bachmann were closed so maybe they felt they didn't have a choice.

Driving from south College Station along Decatur, Longmire, Rock Prairie, and then up Wellborn toward campus is embarrassing. Grass 2-3 feet high in lots of places and trash everywhere alongside the road. There is even a weed about 4-5 feet high actually in the right turn lane growing thru the pavement near the Koppe Bridge and HEB.

Man, I should start a company that just bids mowing contracts, but do zero mowing... and see how much money I can make before getting fired.

I can only imagine the understanding I would get from code enforcement if I lost my lawn service and things got out of control.
Can't have it both ways.
