Peach Failure

We've been growing peaches and a few plums since 2010, averaging about 27 trees at one time. A few years were sparse with low chill hours but my June Golds and TexKings still did ok.
This year will be a 98% failure. Warm thru the middle of January with few chill hours recorded. Trees began to bloom in mid January and the 2 night cold snap of 17 degrees wiped them out. Usually there is another bloom which did happen by mid-late February but nothing stuck. Made it thru cracking but small fruit completely aborted.
Besides the above cultivars, we have White Delight 1, Fire and Royal Zest, FlordaKing, and young TexStars.

I must say that the calorie sink that the trees avoided has allowed them to make the most incredible growth by mid-May that we have ever seen. Next year should be good.

Same here. The chilling hours were not enough. Too much warm weather during the winter. My trees blossomed but nothing set. Had 1 Tex king tree with peaches but the coons took care of destroying what green peaches were on that tree. My June gold which in the past have been great producers set no peaches. Hoping for better chilling time this fall and winter. Wait till next year.

Used to see Texas peaches regularly at Farm Patch, but they have been really sporadic of late and the seasons seem shorter then ever. A shame because they are so much better than the CA and GA ones.

Our dewberries didn't do much this year. I've been wondering if it was the lack of freeze this winter.

Normally we have gallons upon gallons. This year I got about 2 cups and didn't see enough to make it worth going out again. Hopefully what did make will seed out for next year.

Same here with the dewberries. I filled up a stadium cup after an hour of picking. We got a good rain the next day or so and when I returned, the remainder had 'melted'.

My mature fig tree started to make leaves and fruit early this year and the late freeze hurt. The tree is basically sprouting from the ground again. No figs for me this year.

Family in the Hill Country say it's a 1% crop this year. As noted above low chilling and late freeze did everything in.

White Delight 2 tree, reliable producer, this year I culled 60-80, should have done 50 more.
Crazy yield. Just past Snook.

They can do great and then die. I understand that peaches are not ideal for Brazos County. I've been told that certain pears do well here. With my garden, low sun anrea due to house/fence, and trees elsewhere, I think I don't have a place for one.

Edit to add: for peaches, it may be best for seriously augmented soil or a big pot.

Tried to grow them thrice and gave up. Haven't given up on plums yet, but stone fruit really seem to struggle here.
