Most annoying traffic signal in BCS

My nomination: Briarcrest at Broadmoor

I work night shift, so I drive through this intersection about 10:20 pm at night, when there's not much traffic. As far as I can tell, at that time of night, the signal is on a timer, because it will stop the main road (Briarcrest) even when there is no cross traffic. To be even more annoying, once Broadmoor goes back to red, the turn lanes on Briarcrest get protected lefts. Not flashing yellow - full green, so straight through traffic (which is 99% of it) is still stuck sitting there waiting for cars that aren't there.

Northbound 2818. You're cruising north past a long string of unnecessary u turn lights. They're all green. Pass Holleman, start making the curve to the right with nothing but the view of a concrete wall. Bam! Unexpected redlight with a pile of backed up cars at Luther. Slam on the brakes in your moment of disappointment.

It wouldn't be so bad, if you could see it sooner.

Second worse is along the same path. Going from 2818 northbound to westbound University. The redlight that shouldn't be there and was supposed to be removed. You have your own lane but you're stopped just sitting and watching.

Southbound on Boyett at University after church. No right turn on red and it stays red forever.

My vote is Fitch at Earl Rudder feeder road late at night or very early. I've waited to turn left there 3-4 cycles before finally running the red light.

Turning left off Texas into 2818. Much faster to turn right, u turn and go straight.

Eastbound Fitch turning left onto Barron in PM peak cycle. I don't care how bad your nomination is, this is the worst. 1/4 mile long turn lane with a green cycle long enough to let 4 cars turn after sitting for 2-3 minutes while Fitch traffic has a green. You'll see multiple vehicles run the red to avoid sitting for an additional 5 minutes.

This is easy….

The light on University on the east side of the bypass heading toward the bypass…..like if you are leaving Veterans or TXB and heading towards the bypass

The light before you cross over the overpass…if you catch it during the busy times of the day, you know, when there a crap ton of cars around, it takes several lights for you to finally get to cross over that overpass and either get on southbound hey 6 or continue straight on university. Can't understand why the timing at least for the busy parts of the day do not allow more cars through that intersection.

I know that, would come home at 8pm from Houston and that light was always annoying. Never green on the frontage road, and then the second light was red too.

I used to drive through there somewhat frequently late at night and very early morning, eastbound on Fitch to northbound feeder.

Found the odd signal behavior that if I was in the left-most left turn lane, the signal would go through its cycle like I wasn't there, and I wouldn't get a green. But if I was in the right side left turn lane, it would turn green just fine.

Like it had a blind spot in that one lane.

Holleman at Texas. Southbound(ish) lane of Texas is on a hill. There is a stoplight on Harvey, about 1000ft to the North (ish), which tends to back up drivers to George Bush (Jersey) at rush hour. Massive traffic entering southbound Texas a Harvey. Drivers leaving HEB drive down Park Place, cross three lanes of traffic on Texas and make a U-Turn at Holleman and the drive north on Texas. Drivers heading north(ish) on Texas have passed thru 3 lights and are fed up with stopping for every car coming out of Target or Dairy Queen, and they barrel thru the Texas/Holleman intersection with or without a green light. Finally drivers on Holleman must wait a life-time for a green, that will only let five or six cars through at a time and they must dodge U-turners on Texas. Add to that the fact that it is (one of) the busiest intersection in town.

Built for 1970s traffic, I think.

Northgate. Very common to see all 4 directions of traffic at a complete stop. There is a single random green light that will stay on, yet zero cars are in that particular lane. Friday night, the four way stop lasted over a minute where nobody moved. Add to the gridlock, "no right on red."

In 2025, there is no reason for an intersection to not have a sensor system to improve traffic flow during off hours.

This. I live off Fitch on the left hand side, so, I use the left-most left turn lane.

That would be the pedestrian safety zone signals that the city put in a few years ago. (2019 maybe?) It's actually all of the lights on University from Boyett to Polo. They stop all the vehicle traffic and have walk signals on all the crosswalks as part of the signals' cycle. I think the pedestrian portion lasts 20 or 30 seconds. It's No Turn on Red so cars don't try to turn while the pedestrians have their own green light.

Now, at S. College/Bizzell and the part of Polo leaving campus, they got smart and made those No Turn on Red signs electronic, so they're only active during the pedestrian time.

I avoid University on class days because of those signals.

Pedestrians should also stay in the crosswalks. How is that turning out?

4 cars is a stretch. Have to account for the 2 second delay for the first car to look up from their phone.

No exaggeration, the light is typically turning yellow while the first car is passing through the intersection.

ETA: same intersection westbound is just as bad

I've said it before, but the entire light cycle on Fitch, straight or turning, from Wellborn to HWY 6, is maddening

If you are in a hurry, it's got to be the one at the College Ave and University Dr. intersection. They put the red light on all directions stopping all cars in all directions and let the college students zig zag across in any direction they want. I have sat behind cars at at that intersection 10 minutes before my direction got a green light.

I understand what they are doing and that is fine, but if you are in a hurry, it's something really slow to get through.

SE bound on Texas turning left onto Villa Maria in front of HEB. Usually about 2 cars get to turn before it turns red, one if someone is on their phone.

All of them, none are timed/sensored properly.

In a lot of places you can jut put the speed limit through busy areas and make it through 90% of the lights, not in BCS

George Bush east bound at Olsen. 7 light changes, and I never moved.

The drivers in front of you have to look up from their phones. Otherwise, the signals are useless.

Closed for comment...and there's nothing about that SH-40 light...or a few other misaligned lanes. Seems like a lot of disproportionate cycling complaints.

Not sure, as I have avoided GB like the plague. I want to say it was a couple of years ago, between 4 and 5 in the afternoon. I'm sure classes were getting out. The problem was that cars turning left from Olsen clogged up the intersection. I remember being in front of Calloway House for awhile.
