Honestly haven't thought much about this, but been craving one of late.

With not much experience here it seems like Readfields might be top of the pack. Curious what others think.

I haven't been to Kroger in years. Isn't it much more expensive than HEB? I get them confused with Randalls/Tom Thumb all the time.

I shop at Kroger. Every once in a while, I'll run into H-E-B for something, and I've noticed HEB charges similar prices for their store brand that Kroger's charges for the national brand.

Because HEB house brand products are superior to national brand because Texas

I won't argue that.

My understanding is that:

1, Hill Country Fare is their bargain brand
2. If it is an HEB labeled product, it taste tested equal to or better than the national brand
3. Central Market is their upscale label

Not sure if it qualifies as rotisserie. The Flaming Bird at the highway 21 is awesome.

It's a marinaded while chicken that's spatchcocked and grilled on a a big cast iron gas grill. Then finished off in the oven.

It comes with grilled jalapenos and onions on the side. You can get Mexican rice tortillas and all the fixings right there.

It's maybe a little more expensive, but if you do their fuel rewards it makes up for it. I usually get 70-1.50 off per gallon every month. I think it alsonhas better produce than HEB, and their in house brands rival HEB's on quality. I prefer HEB preseasoned meats, but think Kroger has better meat cuts. Kroger also has pretty awesome digital coupons and sales. I really only go to HEB for coffee and prescriptions now.

1. Economax is the bargain brand. It shows up in the lower end H-E-B stores more often.
2. H-E-B brand is hit or miss. It's just a store brand.
3. Most of the Central Market stuff is original products but some of it isn't very good. Actual Central Market stores are great, the CM brand at H-E-B is probably the worst thing about them.

There's a massive cult following regarding H-E-B that allows people to overlook all their shortcomings and it is annoying, but that's just the way things are. There's some pushback in recent Google reviews but in general, telling people that H-E-B is vastly overrated, and then they react with confusion and disgust, as if you just told them the Holocaust didn't happen.

Until around 2018, you could see two stores and their big distribution center if you went down to Houston on US-290.

I joined their boost program about 2 months ago ($59/year but the had a coupon to make it $39 the first year). Double gas points Monday-Thursday and triple gas points on the weekend. We're getting $1.00 off per gallon every time we go to the pump (once a week). The membership has paid for itself in a short amount of time. Some exclusive coupons have also lowered my weekly grocery bill.

Plus, they now deliver my groceries all the way out to Millican….for free!

100% agree on the cult following. They have done a good job with their marketing.

There is usually a 4x fuel points coupon on the app for weekend shopping. That's how we get points added up like crazy

Believe it or not, the Taco Cabana on Texas Ave across from Campus had the best in town.

Readfields to me is the best now.

They have ones that are gift card only, but they usually have one that is for any purchase. This is the current one- 2x or 3x if you are boost

It's in the deli counter ready to buy.

Additionally, they do have a few tables and chairs where you can sit and eat as they sell plates.

Having teen boys we buy extra chicken, sides, and tortillas.

It's the perfect meal when you are busy and have been running around after work or you have people just drop by and then dinner time is approaching. Instead of ordering a pizza grab flaming bird
