Here's main email... If that had happened to me I would have taken picture of the time on my phone next to the hours showing on the door and sent it.

I'm sure they'll reply: In order to close at 4:30pm the last person must enter at 4:00pm... but that's BS.
sounds like they just want to work their specific hours and not have to stay 10-15 minutes later.

Get it to Rusty on his facebook page. Since it is government and not retail location that could advertise with KBTX, he might have a reporter do an investigative report on it.

I contacted Peters with my concerns about raising taxes the last go around.
He never got back to me.

He will hear from me next time he is up for election, through my vote against him.

I tried to contact him several years ago to no avail. A county attorney returned the call for him.

It's not a facelift. It's the project to fix the drainage issue between the two buildings. Thankfully.
It doesn't take a lot of rain for that area to be under water.

These buildings are way too new to be having these problems. Isnt this the exact same issue that CSHS had with the baseball fields and football stadium?

Is anyone holding these contractors responsible for shady work? Were they paid? If so, have lawsuits been filed? Or do they just wait a couple years and hit up the taxpayers for more money?

I don't know why you are asking me those questions.

I was just pointing out that they weren't just doing some beautification project.

Thanks. I was just responding to your post. Not actually asking you.

These are questions that everyone should be asking when we see our taxes being wasted.

I completely agree and I don't think that they always spend money wisely.
The city buying certain properties comes to mind.
I've emailed the city and the county when I have questions about projects. I've definitely let my voice be heard to the school boards.

I think that our voices should be heard and we have the right to criticize them when we feel like they aren't being wise with our money.

I also think that the criticism should be accurate.

It is a sad state that we have come to, that we must question the choices of our elected and appointed officials. In the future our elected and appointed officials must strive to be good stewards of the peoples funds and less centered on their own aspirations.

"These are questions that everyone should be asking when we see our taxes being wasted."

Have you actually asked anyone with real knowledge of what and why construction was going on at the tax office? Honestly, it "looks" like you just got on the internet to complain to a bunch of anonymous people.

Is it possible the original contractors are the ones footing the bill to make these corrections?

That building has been there a while. I doubt it.

I have experience with another public building, and they only had 1 year to report "problems" to the builder.

I suspect with a little research, information about the project, its cost, and the reason for the project could be indentified without coming on forums with wild guesses and acusations.

I have always been for the smallest government possible to supply essential services to its residents. At the time is was built, I was thinking that they should have moved to a vacant commercial building in the community.

I am not a builder nor architect, but i more than likely the buidling was built for the normal rainfall for the area and not for the absolute maximum possible? Maybe a builder on here can elaborate or even prove me wrong?

Also, all the development in the area has probably caused significant changes in both water percolation amounts into the soil and the area's rainfall drainage pattern?

The Macy's building was be a great tax office?

Macys would be good.

Parking already available.

Centrally located.

The employees would have access to better lunch options.

I'd love to know who did the Geotech engineering on that and how much they were paid for it. Because it was obviously way too much.

Looks to me to be a needed project. The only question I would have is why didn't they build the building up ona dirt and concrete pad a couple of feet high so that there won't be water penetration in the building issues? Did they go the cheap route on accepting bids?

The fact that it is needed after the plans were approved- and before any construction contract- is the problem. Unless the contractor didn't follow the plans and the geo tech this is on the plan author that created the blueprint that was put out for bid on the office. But of course, we will never get any transparency on it and if anyone went to commissioners court and ask a question about it, they wouldn't get an answer.

So, it takes 4 months to put in some French drains?

The project was to "fix the drainage issue between the buildings"…

I imagine that the 3rd part contractor is work a number of jobs at the same time and shuttles workers back and forth depending on need. Having multiple jobs going at the same time minimizes costly downtimes. I assume they have a target completion date and besides that, there is no sense of urgency on completing the work....and then you have automatic constract extensions based on weather and other factors.

Or the burning fire approach. Wait until you are up against a hard deadline, then rush all of your workers to that job, neglecting all others.

We should call it poor government oversight on contracts.

I can add to the story. Some HOA's are bored with current annual fees, so they hold emergency special fee assessments that are mandatory for projects. Nobody really cares if you are struggling to pay your weekly grocery bill.

I bet that 90% of all large contractors who know how to run their business have multiple jobs going at any one time. Three of the questions in my contractor insurance inspections for GL coverage is how many ongoing jobs do you have, how many jobs do you do annually, and the average contract price of a job. Most all have multiple work at any one time.

maroon barchetta
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agreed.

I worked for years at a contracting company and sometimes we had more work than expected. We still met our deadlines. Our clients didn't go weeks without seeing us.

We raised ours $25 (100ish houses) to avoid doing this. You have to elect people that spend the money like their own. We had to run off South College Station Nancy Pelosi to accomplish this.
