We are spending money on this? Is there a large public demand for this?

no where is that schedule?trouble said:
Have you looked at the schedule for the community center? They host all kinds of various things.

On the website. https://www.cstx.gov/departments___city_hall/parks/southwood
The D&D night is "supported by" a local game shop so I'm not sure that the city is waiting any money other than the utilities for the space. https://clockworkgaming.com/
Agree. May disagree that this is what that is.Stupe said:
Being fiscally conservative and spending money on programs that build community are not diametrically opposed to each other.

A bunch of people that may have never met getting together for a night of common interest and fun....is NOT building community?EliteElectric said:Agree. May disagree that this is what that is.Stupe said:

And I won't deny that since I really don't know, just seemed odd to me. I am old enough to have been around the world. I have a ton of friends, who have kids and grandkids, and as far as I know I do not know one person who plays D&D. So the city funding it seems odd to me.trouble said:EliteElectric said:Agree. There's a lot of people who play D&D and similar games. You probably know several at least. It's not just weirdos who live in their mom's basement. I don't play but I know doctors, lawyers, politicians, schoolteachers, and other professionals in this community that have or still play.
How many do you consider "a bunch"?Stupe said:A bunch of people that may have never met getting together for a night of common interest and fun....is NOT building community?EliteElectric said:Agree. May disagree that this is what that is.Stupe said:

Do I have that correct?

Conversely I know several people who fly fish, and I oppose us funding that as well.
It's probably just me, I am an old curmudgeon who doesn't want to fund most things.
I covered that earlier in the thread "(health, safety etc)"trouble said:
But what is the city funding other than the space to host it? Which they are already paying for?
Would you rather not have the community center at all? What kind of things should it host if not things that community members are willing to fund?
2 or more if it leads to friendships.EliteElectric said:How many do you consider "a bunch"?Stupe said:A bunch of people that may have never met getting together for a night of common interest and fun....is NOT building community?EliteElectric said:Agree. Even though I may not play or be interested in D&D, I think that is a much better use of funds than the new $300K sign that is on the City Council agenda Thursday night.
Presentation, discussion, and possible action on a construction contract with Aria Signs and
Design for City Gateway Sign 3 (West) for $270,000, plus the City's contingency of $21,600 for
a total appropriation of $291,600
I sure am, and those 2 things are not remotely similar.maroon barchetta said:EliteElectric said:

You were very supportive of Shipwreck getting $100k from the CoB for upgrades.
