Mentally challenged, and/or drug related, people on the streets? I really can't tell which it is, I just know I've seen almost 10 different people that had problems. Anybody else?

BCS has grown a lot, and sadly this is a common unintended consequence of growth.

We've always had them, even 30-40 years ago. Just part of life.

We've always had them but in the old days Elijah would round up all the other ones and store them in his tinfoil rocketship

Seems to come in waves. CSPD does a good job keeping it clean around here.

Actually he always seemed to be a nice guy, normal looking other than the crucifix in a holster. He just hung out at that WB I believe.

Was Elijah the guy that drove a car with a trailer behind it?

I know the Hensel park used to be a place for homeless people. George that road the bike with the various hats, sailor, marine, baseball, construction, lived there. Sometimes wore a fancy jacket.. I speculate he died because he was in poor health.

You can spot the out of towners that are organized because they all wear the same colored t-shirt and need money for a "camp or a trip".

I have known him for about 30 years or more. He was not mentally challenged. He has a dgree from A&M. He worked at WB a couple of different times. His job was to wash the parking lot, take out the trash, and do minor handiman repairs. He also did marketing for Potato Shack on Wellborn where he gave out $1 off coupons and he got a few pennies if they were used that he sent to the Israel orphanage that he supported.

He lived in his space ship waiting for God to transport him to another world. For a few years he lived in a friend's garage down the street from Whataburger.

He has since bought some land out around Pecos and move a shipping container out there to live in. The last time I talked to him is that he was arranging to bury the trailer into the soil for cooling. He built a solar water still gave him enough water to live on. He said he would go to a truck stop about an hour away to take a shower once in a while.

He wrote small book on his religious beliefs that was interesting. I have a copy somewhere. He also collected money for a children's home he help with.

He comes back to town about every three years for a month or two.. You will see him mostly at Barnes and Noble Cafe.
He was a nice guy...just march to a different drummer.

Religious hermits have been going to the desert, since the time of Moses.... Each to their own calling.

After sitting in a junkyard off Leonard Rd for some time, Elijah's car is currently memorized at Truck Yard in The Colony, Tx. https://ibb.co/xhR7pmv

Used to work out in the Mojave desert and you are 100% correct. Especially around the Niland, Salton Sea area. If any of y'all have a hankering to do so, Salvation Mountain is quite the spectacle to see in person. I don't know what it is about the desert but it definitely attracts a certain type of person. I absolutely have met several psycho/geniuses out there. "Eccentric" is all encompassing out there and yet seems to not quite hit the mark in several cases.

The damned thing is, I miss the desert myself. Born and raised and worked in it and I feel a draw now to go back. Not sure what that says about me really. Just gonna go smash my head into a brick wall a few times and hopefully cure me of this affliction.

Born and raised in El Pueblo de Nuestra SeƱora la Reina de los ngeles, or "LA" to non Angelinos, and my huge Greek family had restaurants all over the Mojave desert. From Hesperia/Victorville/Apple Valley area to Palmdale/Lancaster all the way to Vegas. I hated the desert as a kid and the "weirdos" that lived out there. Hated going there, being there all of it. Now when I go back to visit I genuflect and pine for "the good ole days" riding around with my Papou (grandpa) and visiting places like Scotties Castle and London Bridge.

Ah to be young and have my grandparents again.
