It's not about having sex no matter what you believe.

So then please tell me what makes a person gay, lesbian, or bisexual?

Not going to get into this debate.

GSA and other clubs you don't like are treated exactly the same way other clubs that schools can't "promote" are. They get the same announcements, meeting space, sponsors.

Because your argument is fundamentally flawed. Not only should GSA not recieve fair/equal treatment, they shouldn't be allowed.

Shouldn't be allowed *in your opinion.*

It's the opinion of a lot of people.

And comparing how they discuss sex in those two clubs is apples and oranges.

Please tell me when you attended a GSA meeting

It's fine that you think that, but that argument doesn't hold any water legally and the district isn't going to expose themselves by banning a student-led club along these lines.

I don't think it. I know it.

I have several friends who had kids attended GSA meetings to discuss issues that they were having. They stopped going because sex was the primary focus of discussion. The kids made the choices to stop going. Not the parents.

That's how student-led clubs are supposed to operate. Kids chose to start them and run them and other kids chose to either attend or not. I'm sorry yours had a bad experience.

So much fear and running away from things and such little planning and intelligent thought to overcoming real challenges.

Did you actually read my post.

1. Not my children
2. It was a response to you saying that I "think" they discuss sex differently.

By all means, what is your point then?
Stupe

I'm guessing the "your child" was your way of trying to spin it that it wasn't really the children of other parents.

1. Sorry. I lost a word or two in writing on my phone. "Your kid's friends"
2. It doesn't matter to the district if they discuss sex differently. The district can't make a value judgment along those lines in deciding to ban or allow certain student clubs to exist.
Stupe

You said that I "think" they discuss it differently. I pointed out that I know that they do.

I didn't say a thing about the legality of the club.

Not my kid's friends.

Children of my friends. The kids are different ages and don't know my kids.

Is accuracy not important to you when you reply to people?

Ok

Aaaaand, that's where you're wrong. There are definitely districts that will fight it tooth and nail. Not majority, but they do exist. To tie it back to the election, electing similar school boards (and by extension, superintendents) is why anyone who agrees should vote.

Yeah, trying to get schools to ban certain student-led organizations because they don't fit your worldview is a losing endeavor.

I don't have children at CSMS, but was genuinely curious when others mentioned the GSA club being advertised on the announcements. I would love to know if these organizations are truly student-led or if there is a teacher facilitator. I am perfectly fine with others having different worldviews than my own, kids includes. However, I'm not ok with teachers bringing their own personal bias into school.

To get back to the student led question, most (maybe all) are going to have a staff/faculty sponsor. In some cases, these sponsors will have made the suggestion to students the students start one, in other cases the sponsor themself will have started it, and finally, there are some sponsors that come on board after the club has been organically put together by students.

It's highly variable and likely depnds on the district culture and admin.

I'm voting for Mangan, Collins, and Levine.

Folks this is a massive derail. I understand your concern, I appreciate the points of view but this has nothing specific to offer to the discussion of the elections.

Please cover this between yourselves or start another thread.
