Never underestimate the power of prayer! Coulter's tremors and congestion have improved. He even shows signs of regaining his swallowing ability, critical to helping clear his coughs and opening up possibilities to soon receive a soothing icee or slushee for a likely irritated throat from the constant suctions that we give to clear his lungs. His eye tracking has also improved.
Coulter's current condition is a promising contrast to last week. We speculate that the words from Jeremiah 29 is at work where the Lord declares "I know the plans I have for you." Plans to "prosper, not be harmed, and plans for hope and a future."
We even took Coulter and his sisters out today to an annual Civil War re-enactment in Aiken, SC. Though the weather was not the best, he and his sisters seemed to enjoy it.
Press on young man. We won't know until the heavens unfurl their glory, what miracles are in progress today and how we all are but a tiny, yet needed part of the master plan!

We apologize for the absence of recent updates, as we have dug our heals into round-the-clock care for Coulter while we continue to make careful adjustments to his medications. We are pleased to see a degree of stability over the past month. For a while, his tremors (arms and head) were nearly continuous during the day, but we have begun to see some improvement. He has successfully conquered some minor hurdles such as a UTI though we are currently hoping he can break through some congestion which has caused him discomfort in breathing and heart rate. As we reduce the steroids, we are beginning to see further alertness as well as a reduction in facial swelling. Coulter even cracked a smile yesterday something we barely caught in this photo. Oh, and that snazzy return of hair had required his first haircut in a year!
We have slowly resumed immunotherapy which, unlike chemo, does not had any negative side effects on Coulter since he has been on them successfully for over three years. This may further help with his tremors in addition to the obvious countermeasures against the disease. Continued stability will allow us to obtain imaging of his brain and spine and monitor the status on a closer level.
Given this positive outlook, we plan to venture out this weekend with Coulter to see the play "Hansel and Gretel" at the nearby Augusta University and then hunker back down before the large crowds arrive for the 2019 Masters Golf Tournament which takes over the town quite nicely. After this, we will welcome the arrival of the Easter season and celebration of Christ's victory for all of us!

Oh how marvelous, oh how wonderful and my song shall ever beand is my Savior's love for me! Happy Easter week to all and thank you for your continued prayers. Coulter celebrated this joyful season with both sets of grandparents and special loving friends who we think of as family.
Coulter is almost weaned off of steroids. It is still a challenge to manage his heart rate but the professionals who work with him are noticing slight gains here and there. For example, in the past two weeks, Coulter has been able to slightly blow a whistle, slightly wave a palm for Palm Sunday, and slightly make a few grunts (for lack of a better word) in response to someone working with him vocally.
A highlight of the holiday was a visit by his Texan grandparents who drove 1,000 miles to visit him. We pray for their safe drive back as they are in their late 80's and early 90's. In closing, we thank the Lord for giving us his only son who took upon his shoulders the brokenness and sins of the world, so we can live today, knowing we are sanctified on the day we will eventually stand, free from sickness, pain or worry and join the choirs of heaven to sing He has Risen! Glory to God in the Highest!

7 years ago today, Coulter (then just turned 4) was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, setting off a journey that would demand and test the faith of him and many others.
Whether it was sitting in the exam room awaiting the results of the very first MRI diagnosis or the eighty-first MRI confirming an unrelenting progression of disease over the years, we still are in no more control over God's plans today than before, but we can learn to trust a God who is never taken by surprise. Our anxiety only heightens when this trust is not running at full steam, and of course we all have those days.
If we had then foreseen 7 years to the day of his initial diagnosis, taking Coulter on a fishing trip with the Outdoor Dream Foundation, then perhaps we would have lived with a little less anxiety. But how then would our faith ever have such conditions to grow?
So today we give thanks for the time we have been loaned, living each day without the promise of tomorrow (as it should) and instead, growing our faith by a promise that is more eternal!
We thank all of the doctors, many health professionals, friends and family for the years of dedicated hard work, prayers and encouragement that has helped children like Coulter and our families reach these milestones.
Never Give Up!
Today's update.Quote:
Two things are absolutely clear. Prayers work and Coulter is one tough cookie!
Coulter is doing significantly better than he was Saturday morning. This however, is indicative that the reintroduction of steroids brought down the brain swelling. While seemingly good news at first, this also means that his symptoms (breathing/heart rate) were/are driven by swelling in the brain at the basil ganglia, hence his tumors are likely growing. We can conclude that the steroids are a temporary relief.
We remain grateful to have the opportunity to again "lean on the everlasting arms" of our Lord, who is so near to all who call His name. Thank you all for your constant prayers for Coulter! He is not giving up, and neither are we!

The face of not giving up.
Coulter has faced some of his toughest challenges in recent weeks. Secretion build up, including bleeding in the airways, has affected how we routinely clear his air passageway (a small rubber catheter inserted through the nose or mouth). This is compounded by a significant UTI, and possible bone marrow impediment which has driven the need for more platelet and blood transfusions. He will also have an added plasma infusion and insulin shot today. Multiple systems are taxed on this tough young man.
We were made aware long ago to prepare for complications not directly related to cancer, but rather the collateral damage that often comes from its treatment. These secondary afflictions are now his call to battle. Lets not forget that this is the longest he has gone without tumor resection surgery (1 year) in his 7-year journey, where he has averaged almost 2 surgeries per year. This alone is a testament of faith and the miracles of prayer.
Coulter, you continue to serve the Lord in ways that we as your parents, never can. It is a privilege to pray and care for you as you manifest the call to never give up. Your medical team has not given up, nor have your fellow warriors also fighting their own battles with you whom you have met along the way, or through this Pray for Coulter Page.
Praise to the Lord who will also never give up on us!

Coulter's efforts have escalated in the past week. Indicators lead us to believe that he is now in the fight for his life. His oxygen, heart rate, and blood pressure are of acute concern. He is surrounded 24x7 by his mom, dad, two sisters and grandparents, all keeping a watchful eye on his vitals and needs. The medical team at Augusta University Health continues to provide unprecedented support, giving Coulter an all-hands-on-deck attention. We await with confidence in God's promise for his care and repeat the hope filled words of Christ according to Matthew 10:29
"Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."
Coulter, my son, you have nothing to fear. Your fight is part of a battle that was already won for you 2,000 years ago by someone who loves you even more than all of us combined. But you keep fighting. Because you seem to know no other way of living. The will to give up or not, is one of the very few things God allows us to control. And you have earned the privilege to lead us by example in our prayers for you.
