Calallen runs a Wing-T offense. They maybe throw the ball five times per game. Quarterback is mobile, and is tough for defenders to bring down, doesn't have top-end speed, originally a RB/WR, took over as QB as a sophomore, so he's been around the block. Running back is a sophomore, he gets the majority of carries. Small shifty runner to complement a more bruising quarterback, but like the quarterback, packs a punch in the pound-the-rock offense. Really earns those 2-3 extra yards by attacking the hole head on, moving square upfield. QB has 1,150 rushing yards & 20 rushing TD's, RB has 1,450 rushing yards & 18 rushing TD's. O-Line has solid technique, not overpowering in size, but gets assignments done to create the effective, yet simple offense. Killing point is their ball control. With the Wing-T, Calallen controls the clock, and uses it to their advantage. Had the ball for 30+ minutes in each of their last two games.
Defense is stout. Nobody has scored more than 17 points on them all season (6.6 per game). Aggressive line, may bring lots of pressure. Starting front seven has 32 sacks on the season, 19 of which have come from the linebackers. Secondary is not quick, but makes up for lack of speed with solid technique. Corners have 4 & 3 INTs a piece. Weakness lies in the secondary, however, and opponents have been able to take advantage of 1-on-1 matchups. Defense is known for halftime adjustments. Held Victoria East to just 58 yards in the second half last week.
Got this scouting report from a buddy who's from Calallen and his brother is a wide receiver for them. Solid team all-around, very disciplined and old school. Head coach is Phil Danaher, who is the winningest coach in Texas HS football history.
Hope that gives you a look at Calallen and a general sense of the team they are!
