New BBQ place, a trailer on Tx Ave, near Coulter: Krazy Q and Dr. Sno Kone. It's good.

While you are waiting for a more mainstream natural groceries option please consider Village Foods and Brazos Naturals pack an amazing amount of product into tiny retail footprints.
Village Foods also has a web source for additional products.
This, for real. I make a run once a week to one of these places to get tofu/tempeh/vegan junk food and it takes like two seconds. I like that they're not sprawling stores, and Village is cheaper than Whole Foods for the stuff I buy.

In other thread related news, 555 Cafe opens today for business.

Sprouts tested the market here and pulled out. BCS shoppers don't want "frou-frou" grocery stores...at least not yet.

Wow, here I thought they never opened and thus never gave the area a try! They even left all the brand signage leftover from Linens N Things and everything! How come no one ever tells me about these things?!

Thank you for cleaning up this thread, Staff.

It looks like Twisted Noodle Cafe is set to open soon.

That's exactly what Fly said. They did market testing to see if a store would be successful here and decided against opening a location here.

In all seriousness, though, I wouldn't consider Sprouts "frou-frou".

And in other news, does anyone know what is going on at the old Loupot's in Northgate? Last I saw it was totally boarded up with scaffolding. I checked the TABC Public Inquiry tool (because I'm sure that whatever is there would sell some sort of alcoholic beverages) for the address but all I got was the stillborn Z Bar & Bistro listing, which is coming up for cancellation in two months.

Related, there is some kind of new nightclub where Basil Whippet's Apothecary was, right next door.

Drove by and found that the BB&T bank on Northgate was demolished. I think it's supposed to be another tall apartment building when done.

Driving down East 29th St I saw "CVS / Pharmacy" on the side of a building...which I recognized used to be the Medicine Chest.

Does anyone know what's slated for the old BB&T property? I'm surprised more hasn't been done with the old Albertson's property in terms of housing over the years. It seems like a slam dunk to put housing within a short walk from campus.

BB&T prop will be student housing. 14 story I think.

Owner of old albertsons property waiting for all of the other developments to transpire before deciding how to proceed. Besides, he already did a first phase of student housing with developing The Stack.

14 stories?

Taller than The Rise?

It was open on Sunday, as my wife took my daughter there and spent a chunk of change on school clothes. They said the line was half way through the store...

Maybe it's Burke's that is for lease, but this made it seem like the TJ Maxx was the subject property. May be some changes afoot in that center.

not to derail but i feel like the final product at the corner of University and Texas is pretty underwhelming and coulda been a lot better. that is really considered the center point of town and instead of going 3-4 stories or whatever that is imho that shoulda been a higher rise at least 12-14 stories.

Why would a high rise be better?

I agree. The final product at Texas & University is very underwhelming. Architecture is blah and the finished product is ho hum at best. As the key intersection in College Station it could have been done so much better.

Certainly doesn't help having a U-Haul store across the street in an old gas station.

Why would you build a 14 story high rise on the most congested corner in the city and make things worse?

It didn't work out the first time ...

Found the plans submitted for the old BB&T property. It may not be as high as The Rise but will swallow up damn near the entire property.

Welcome to the infancy stage of a city! Omg, how does Chicago survive with 77 buildings over 50 stories...

That increased density around campus and Northgate is so good for commerce.
