I was the owner of this home. Yes, it was horrible and embarrassing to see that on national TV. Yes, House Hunters is faked, and one of the things it seems they do is exaggerate "problems" with the homes in order to keep up the "suspense" of which home will they choose. The condition of our carpet was greatly exaggerated. Yes, if we had stayed in the house longer, a new carpet was on our to do list. I even asked our realtor Jen Zweicker if she thought we should replace it before selling and she said not to bother. I also asked my neighbor what she thought (the Christmas lights house lady), and she said she thought it was fine. If the carpet had been that bad, I would not have been able to live there. Oh, and by the way, we didn't even own a cat. There was a neighborhood cat we let in once in awhile, but it didn't stay in the house for long.
I also think it would have been nice to have been alerted by the buyers that the house would be on House Hunters. We happened to catch the show by accident when it aired. ( I know I am quite late with this reply, as I just happened to go online to see if I could find this episode, and came across this forum). Also, the house was not sold at a bargain because it needed work. We got what was the normal going price at the time for a house that size in that location. Other than the bathrooms needing to be updated a little, it certainly was not a "fixer-upper".
