Just another reason to hate Suddenlink. Any idea when coverage will cease?

Oh well. Both sides just squeezing more money out of us.

Just as much on AMC as it is Suddenlink. We see these contract negotiations taken to the public all the time. Frankly, I'm only sick of both sides trying to manipulate us into getting ticked about it.

AMC will stay on and the price of cable will go up at some point to compensate for the new terms.

This will be my breaking point. AMC has too many shows/movies that I enjoy to let this one go. If Suddenlink drops AMC, I think I'm going to have to drop Suddenlink after nearly 10 years.

The internet service is hit or miss, our DVR is even worse and the bill continues to go up. It is really too bad that our market is too small to have a competing cable company.

I left a comment on that blog, but I doubt Suddenlink will care. When they drop AMC I'll call and see what they want to do to keep me. I doubt they'll do much of anything. If someone with the company wants to try now, e-mail me dave at f8industries dot net.

<--frustrated and disappointed.

Stopped watching AMC when they started putting advertisements in the movies.

But really, there's two satellite companies, so there is some competition.

Ah, another reason to switch to Direct TV. I'll be kissing Suddenlink goodbye in the next few weeks.

Seriously? This is so annoying. Yet another reason to hate Suddenlink.

Same kind of stuff happens with Direct and Dish every few years. Dish lost all the Fox channels a couple of years ago and Direct went through the same heartache last year.

The two sides (content and distributor) will go back and forth. Broadcast might go dark for a month or two. But in the end, everyone wants to make money and they will reach a compromise and you'll have your channel back.

Just find a way to watch online if it actually goes dark. You'll get it back before you know it.

This happens all the time, but it sounds like AMC is being slightly unreasonable in some of their demands. However, my husband will blow a freaking gasket if The Walking Dead isn't available to watch.

No way! I will switch before I give up Breaking Bad and Walking Dead. There's about a hundred crappier channels they could drop before AMC

Come to think of it I had Dish years ago and do remember a similar brouhaha...they were getting channels out of Waco and would not switch to another broadcast area when those went dead, out of pure cheapness. I guess this pattern cuts across all these companies. And yeah, a little competition would be nice.

Yep. Stations want more than they are worth and cable/satellite want to pay as little as possible. It's a two-way street. Business as usual for a contract negotiation. Anyone that's getting pissed at either side is being played like a fiddle.

Suddenlink will make it all up to you guys. They will add 689 more music channels to go with the 200 you don't listen to now.

You are going to have to switch to be able to watch Shawshank Redemption 4 times a week. I propose a Shawshank Movie Channel.

Did you not see the message from Suddenlink where they said this is because AMC wants to raise rates 50% to start and then raise them 100%?

There's a link from Suddenlink that says to contact AMC and try to get them to be reasonable.

In this case, I think it's on AMC. If Suddenlink keeps it and AMC jacks the rates up that much, that'll just result in our cable prices going up.
FNG

Because Suddenlink has never raised prices before.

A cable channel puts out a few shows people like and they think they can raise prices. Personally I'd be happy with a pure a la carte setup with my channel lineup, but there's not as much money in that and other family members would want their channels too. I do like the idea of cord cutting, at least in principle.

I have longed for an a la carte setup for years. There are dozens of channels I never watch and nobody in my family will ever watch.

Yeah, never mind that it's AMC that is making the outrageous pricing demand that will be passed along to Suddenlink's customers. Somehow, of course, it's Suddenlink's fault.

...and they get b*tched out on this forum whever they do.

Seriously, they get b*tched about whenever they raise prices and they get b*tched about whenever they try and hold their ground and not give in to demands that will raise prices.

No wonder they don't give a flying you-know-what about what you customers think! They are perpetually in a no-win situation on internet message boards.

Regarding the a la carte thing...If it ever happens it would probably be priced high enough (on a per channel basis) that if you subscribed to more than say 10 channels or so, it would more worth while to keep normal pkg. Esp if you subscribed to a lot of popular channels. Anyway that's how I envision it.
My 2 cents

For the few Suddenlink defenders out there, how could they possibly be a good company when according to their commercials, they won "most improved" 3 years in a row? How bad do you have to be to have that much room for improvement? There is a reason there are so many negative threads about them.

If you are a cable provider, can you not anticipate a rate increase from a cable company and forward that on to the consumer? My bill went up over $5 a month, where is that extra money going if they refuse to give it to AMC? And why should the consumer be the one to contact AMC and tell them that the price increase is too much? This is a contract disagreement and shouldn't even involve me.

I called Suddenlink to complain and they just read me a prepared response about how AMC has doubled their price since last year.

If I were AMC I'd do the same thing. In the past year they've added the following top rated shows:

Walking Dead
Hell on Wheels
The Killing
Rubicon (this was awesome, but got cancelled)

Each of these shows is of the same caliber as Breaking Bad and Mad Men. Doesn't this warrant a significant price increase? I told the Suddenlink employee to tally me as someone who would pay more for AMC than I currently am.

It's definitely the best cable netword going right now. Pretty bummed.
