We tried to go to the Tap today for one of their awesome chicken sandwiches (some say its the best there is) but when we got there at 2, they were closed, which really surprised me. I remembered this thread and hadn't been to Washbangers since 1999ish, so we gave it a shot, and man was it good. $3.75 Shiner chuggers were a nice surprise too. We ate on the patio and it was a really nice day. We will definitely go back (prior to 2023).

In CS - Dixie Chicken's burgers

In Bryan - Carter's Burger

I have had a great burger at Martin's, also.

I forgot to mention, my husband loved the "Red Eye" burger at the Walker Cafe in Madisonville

Great burger that had pimento cheese and even an egg on it...he loved it!

Unless I am wrong Knockouts is the only place in town where you can get a burger with a fried egg on top. I had one served this style for the first time at a place called Beaver's Ice House in Houston and a burger is not the same without the egg ever sense. Therefore I must rate Knockout's Hangover Burger the best in town.

Anyone know another place in town that can put an egg on the burger?

Everything at Harvey Washbangers is awesome, except the Release Form Wings. (DO NOT WANT.)

JM, you can get an egg on a burger from IHOP.

Yeah, but you can't get a good burger from IHOP. So, the egg on burger at IHOP fails!

I've enjoyed my IHOP meals. But you're right the burgers don't compare to Stovers or the others on the list.

I bet you could get an egg on your burger at Hullabaloo's Diner.

And, again, you would need a good burger as a base as a prerequisite to that egg. Hullaballo, mmmm, not so much.

My reply is pretty much worthless because I don't remember the name of the place, but there is a little country store in lexington that makes a damn good burger.

Had a Koppe Bridge burger while I was in town Saturday - SO good. And I have to second the Bastrop stop - great shakes too.

Had an Ozona cheeseburger this weekend.
1) ingredient quality was good
2) pattie was slightly stiff
3) care in assembly was lacking

So, overall it was decent, but doesn't make the top list for me

The burgers at Koppe are great, but their patty melt with grilled onions is even better (at least at the Harvey Rd. location).

I had a decent burger the other day at Wings and More with swiss, mushrooms and bacon. THe bun wasnt the greatest but the burger was ok. Not the top of the list but was decent. I like to hit Red Robin when I go to the Woodlands.

If you want the Best burger in texas then all you have to do is drive out to Top of The Hill in Benchley Texas, 10 mins from Collage Station.
Also the small town BENCHLEY just north of bryan was founded by the famous Robert Benchley, The great great grandfather of The famous PETER BENCHLEY the author of the movie "JAWS".

on a side note, if you are traveling through Montgomery don't bother stopping at the BurgerFresh. I don't know how much you have to pay Texas Monthly to rate your burger but this thing was horrible.

It was a large burger but the patty was wet. Not juicy... wet. It was like a steamed patty of frozen ground beef. I have never boiled a hamburger patty but I imagine it would have the same result.

Anyway, I have to agree BCS has some great burger places (though I wish Food Town was still around to be on the list)

The name of that little store in Lexington on Hiway 77 is Herk's Country Store and, yes, they most definitely make a great burger...with a choice of regular or jalepeno/cheese sourdough bun and several choices of cheeses. Excellent...but not as excellent as Stover Bros.'s Cafe imho.
