When killing a snake on the road you have to slam on your brakes and slide over them...sure way to make sure he is dead.

And yes, squirrels and rabbits = an often poisonous reptile.

There was one at arrington and Decatur the other day. The eggs popped out of it! I took a picture of it.

Good grief, I ran over that snake two weeks ago. (or it's twin) I guess it does take more than one drive over it to fully kill. I loved the way it was just a snake (although a large snake) and my car still went tha-dunk tha-dunk going over it, like running over a small speedbump.

1. None of our snakes are POISONOUS. Venomous, yes, not poisonous.

2. If it was "very large", more than likely it was a non-venomous Rat/Chicken snake.

3. All snakes, even the venomous ones, help keep rodent populations down.

4. True, putting in an HEB and all that new development isn't good for the environ- but think, that's probably why it was in the road in the first place.

5. And it's more of an ecosystem predator/prey balance.

6. But why aim for the creature? It's one thing to not be able to avoid it, but to purposely kill something that was just crossing your path? <sighs> It's amazing the cute-and-cuddly bias.

According to the CDC, an average of 12 Americans die each year from snake bites, while an average of 26 die from dog bites.

I guess next time you see the old yellow lab walking down the street, save us of all from the danger and line-up Ranger with the hood ornament. Can't be too careful, right?

If it makes you feel better, you can look at it this way: the snake was jaywalking, so we did CSPD a favor by not bothering them with it. This way they can focus on the jaywalking snakes at Northgate.

If it didn't want to die, it shouldn't have been in the road. I think it was suicidal and wanted death by automobile... Maybe txag1876 is the Dr. Kevorkian for snakes.

Dude. STFU. There is an 80 MILLION GALLON OIL SPILL right in your backyard killing an ENTIRE ecosystem, and what are you doing? You're going to spend your Friday night sipping wine, then come to some local internet message board and get your panties in a wedgie over 1 garden snake. If you want to be all "manly" or ACTUALLY care about wildlife, come on down to the Mississippi or Alabama coastline and help clean up.

This was no 2' snake. It was hard to tell since it was coiled up when we went back, but I would estimate about 5 feet. Couldn't tell in the dark what kind it was. Tried to take a picture, but again it was too dark.
