This is beyond fantastic! If it is one-tenth the place that Houston's Central Market is, we really have something to look forward to.

Tthamks for posting this!

ya, i've never been to the one in Houston, but I've been to the one in Austin several times and I LOVE that place.

its a whole new world for grocery store visitors!

Although the Central Market concept is cool, I would never want to do my regular weekly shopping there. Too hard to find "regular' groceries and the prices are kinda high.

Hopefully this hybrid concept will be the best of both worlds.

Interesting...I guess it will be similar to these:

quote:
H-E-B operates four different formats of stores that introduce general merchandise and elements of the Central Market concept: The Woodlands Market in The Woodlands in Montgomery County, Kingwood Market in the Kingwood section of Houston, and the Austin-Escarpment store in south Austin. A fourth store opened on March 22, 2008 in Westlake, and in 2009, the H-E-B in Beecaves was remodeled. HEBs' Alon Market opened on October 17, 2008 in San Antonio.[15] In October 2007, HEB opened its Cypress Market store, located at the intersection of Highway 290 and Barker-Cypress. In November 2007, the 112,000 sq ft (10,400 m2) Vintage Market store opened in northwest Harris County in greater Houston.[16]

If it is like the Woodlands store, you will be happy. It carries everything that a regular HEB carries plus a lot (if not all) of the Central Market stuff. I like being able to get the good breads and a diet Coke at the same time!

The Central Market hybrid is closer to a regular store than a CM store. Its essentailly a regular store with the availability of limited CM items and presentations through a slightly modified floor plan. Its nowhere near the bredth in terms of international and odd cuisine or size of the CM in Houston or Austin.

Awesome!

Have they announced an opening date yet?
BlueTeam02
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think the original completion date was September. I would think it would be at least that long. They aren't moving nearly as fast as the Lowes people are. The Lowes crews were almost working 24/7 during the dirt work/ pad building phase - and many times I have seen them out on weekends and working until dark thirty......but the HEB guys seem to work a 8-5 weekdays mostly.

Geez dude, don't piss in everyone's Cheerios. Even if it isn't what everyone is expecting, at least it's a step up from what we thought it was going to be.

Hybrid stores are fabulous. I shopped at the one in Houston (290 @ Barker Cypress) and now at the Atascocita one, and I wont shop anywhere else. Took my dad to the one in Cypress and he was amazed. Said the produce section was bigger than half the entire Kroger on Booneville Rd.

The Barker-Cyprus store is fabulous and I'm totally happy if that's the one we're getting. On the subject of how much their working on the construction, they've been there until dark and every Saturday that I've driven down Arrington. I think it's hard to see them from the Hwy. 6 side since most of the work seems to be happening on the other side. I hope they'll get done by December but that's all I'm hoping for.

To have it like the Woodlands market would be fine with me. I love Cafe on the Run. And I like having access to difficult to find ingredients. Maybe i wont have to make as many CM runs to Houston as I have in the past.

On a side note - The new Lowes should be opening around July 4th according to my friend who works at the one in Bryan. They will have a grand opening. And I have their phone number on my caller id - for some reason they called me one day. LOL

The bottom line is, however it turns out in the end, it is clear that the #1 most awesome grocery store in the Brazos Valley will be at Tower Point!

That's awesome news! Is there a link to this?

I actually like this better than a complete CM store, as it will be the best of both worlds. I hope we can set up some sort of geographic limit that anyone north of Rock Pr. is not allowed in the Tower Point HEB.

Anyone else up for helping to create that rule?

KBTX article:

The south side of College Station is starting to take shape. The new Lowe's is scheduled to open in July, and Monday News Three found out more about the new HEB being built at Tower Point.

The walls of the 88,000 square foot store are starting to rise and while this will be the biggest HEB in the region, it will not be an HEB Plus. Instead it's a hybrid HEB. It's a combination of HEB's regular grocery stores and a Central Market, HEB's high-end grocery store.

The new HEB grocery store is scheduled to open sometime this fall.

How exciting! I'm happy to see the development in the area finally kicking in.

Amend that to say south of Rock Prairie and we've got something.

It's nice that some corporations are finally realizing that BCS is a major market.

When the big HEB on Texas in College Station opened they had a wonderful selection of stuff as well. HEB is really good about pulling back on the stuff people don't buy much of though. I have a feeling that the new HEB will be much the same. The unsophisticated tastes of College Station residents just won't support a nice grocery store.

Blue,

I was told the dirt work was not under the HEB Contractor so they had to wait until the work was complete and then mobilize.

its quite possible that the two stores will have different customer bases

That will be true now, but when the texas ave. HEB opened it was the nicest store in town and there still wasn't sufficient demand for specialty products.

Don't forget the high brow sophisticated customers from Millican, Peach Creek and Navasota!

This has already been gone through before.

You have a significant clientele that has a higher level of disposable income in B/CS so of course they will be catered to as much as practical.

I am sorry. Those of you who live between Rock Prairie and Barron will have to choose between the Kroger and the new and improved Wal-Mart for groceries and sundry needs.

Thanks and Gig Em.

North of Rock Prairie, to SW Parkway, there is a Kroger not many people know about behind that McDonalds on Texas. No really, there is a Kroger there I promise, this is your store.

HEB on Texas and Holleman, this is for students and those who live in the middle of town in the student area.

Main -- University - the Alberstons on University this is your store. Enjoy.

As for Bryan I don't know much, except for Los HEB and the big Kroger on the bypass. Do what you will....

I cannot wait to see said high brow TX crowd deal with that poor excuse for a roundabout built in there. Maximum hilarity is sure to ensue.

BlueTeam02
How long do you want to ignore this user?
A roundabout ? surely not ?

what are we french ? keep those things in europe.

I screwed one of those up in NB this week. What a debacle !
tinker35
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Blue team. Is the roundabout in NB the one that has the Gizobo in the middle.

Your supposed to go to the inside lane if you are going past the next street. Problem is no one knows how to follow the rules so if you do that you will almost certainly be doing another revolution.
BlueTeam02
How long do you want to ignore this user?
like I said, this isn't europe. i don't remember what was in the middle, I was too busy trying to not get in a wreck and find my way out of the stupid thing....it was somewhere near Landa Park I think.
