First of all I think you people are a disgrace to the youth of our community, putting a youth baseball shirt on P. David? Putting a picture of the 12 desciples on here? What happened to supporting our youth through community involvement? If you have a beef with the Twelve, bring it up to a parent or coach, leave the kids out of it. I coach the 8u Twelve team, and proud to do so. If you don't know about baseball or the Twelve, find out about it or keep it to yourself. I would also like to know who said your kid "sucks" at baseball, because I will ask our team about it, that's not what we're about. If you don't want to support them, don't,but don't get on a forum where you can hide behind some fancy nickname and degrade the kids of this community because they're good kids who work very hard, and love the game. I'm just wondering what kind of adult it takes to try to make kids feel bad about themselves? Our team has done zero fundraisers, but they have volunteered their time in this community(Mash Toy Drive etc. If you don't have anything good to say, say nothing at all. I can't believe this community cannot be happy for kids trying to do something that they enjoy. Get off our kids backs, and find something you enjoy other than trying to destroy our kids dreams!

Yeah, the Apostles were a really disgraceful bunch.

Those kids don’t need bat bags and sweatshirts. When I was a kid we played in t-shirts and blue jeans and shared a bat. My wife bought some stuff from a girl who is in some cheerleader club. They waste a lot of money on hair bows and make-up. Can’t they just comb their hair? I know we donated to one of the high school bands before. Now that I think about it, their uniforms are a little excessive. Can’t they just wear band t-shirts and jeans. They could save a lot of money.

We also had a couple of boys on our street sell something for the College Station athletic department. You know most of the money goes to football since it costs so much to run a football program. Did you know that the football coach makes more than the other coaches? What a waste. If these kids want to do this stuff, they should all get part time jobs.

Come to think of it, wouldn’t we all be better off if they donated all their free time to charitable causes rather than waste it on all these extra curricular activities. After all, it is not like any of them are going to make a living off this stuff anyway.

I think our current city council is perfect for this movement. Let’s have College Station take the lead in banning extra curricular activities that cost money and spend all that extra time and money into charitable activities.

You're making an awfully big assumption about Stoney's intent. Nowhere did he say anything about the baseball organization—only that when he hears its name, the first thing he thinks of is a different group of twelve. Frankly, so do I, except when one of these youth baseball threads has been busy.

Nobody is bashing the program. I think it's great for kids who want to play at an elite level or who aspire to play high school/college/pro ball. I'd love to be involved in something like that if/when I have kids.

I just believe (as do most of us, apparently) that there is a difference between Little League candy sales for kids who would otherwise not be able to play and accosting shoppers to fund fancy equipment and travel.

If the families can afford that kind of gear, fine. But it does not diminish the youth baseball experience if you share helmets and don't have embroidered satin jackets with your name and number on them. I never once minded wearing cotton t-shirts that said, "Sevcik's Texaco," or "Ken Martin's Steak House," or "Mobley Pool Co." And if I ever had a windbreaker in my team colors, it was an accident. But I did have a lot of fun playing ball. I wasn't great and wasn't bad. And I learned a lot.

I don't know anything about these teams, but I do know who Rlucas is and his son that obviously plays on one of them. I feel certain the reason that he is so upset is because he is the OPPOSITE of the obnoxious, rude, parents that are being described here. He is a class act and so is his son. He would never tolerate rudeness from players or parents. If he even knew of it, he would put a stop to it. I think that is why he is so surprised and maybe a little defensive.
That being said, the P. David picture was still funny. IMO.

So who is Staff around here? You delete my post for "name-calling" at 8:05 pm. Yet, you leave up Jabberwocky's post doing the exact same thing that he/she posted at 7:14 pm. How does that work, staff?

If you're going to censor this board like an elementary classroom, censor it equally.

Also, I find it amusing that an entire 3 page thread full of indirect name calling, kid bashing, parent bashing, etc. can stay up. Yet, I call a spade a spade and it promptly gets deleted.

I think it a sad shame and pathetic that a community does not support their own youth. It is pathetic that you all want to tear down the hard working efforts of kids who are trying to make it! Let's not just pick on the boys who play baseball... what about softball... soccer... football... dance... choir... band... orchestra... Girl Scouts... Boy Scouts... drill team... gymnastics...Oh, Oh, how about the school PTA who is ALWAYS asking for money... if we are going to tear our youth apart let's go for it! We have been approached repeatedly by all of these groups and we just POLITELY so no thank you if we can't or don't want to help.

In the second sentence, you play the victim card in response to an original post that was complaining about the method in which the money was raised and which disagreed with the purported responses of the adults who were purportedly involved.

Bottom line: People who donate are good people. People who don't donate and who do not agree with the methods in which the donations are solicited are good people also and are entitled to voice their disagreement when someone invades their space.

Marmec you really need to calm down. You are not helping your case at all with the over the top rants to staff. What dufflepud posted is known as satire -- a completely fair use of any logo. If you stick around long enough you will find out that dufflepud lightens up many a thread with his photoshop skills.

I think we have started something. We've started pointing out that kids need a bat, a ball, and a place to play baseball. When you pass a certain point, people don't have any more sympathy when the hat gets passed their way. When you go twelve leagues past that like Twelve has, you get a backlash when parents want you to support their kids' hobbies.

Marmec...could you answer my question from earlier? Where does the name "The Twelve" come from?
