As much as the crew of the NW ride the greenhorn, it's good to see they reward and respect him for the hard work he did. He was really stoked to get Sig's jacket.

I like Edgar. He seems to have a "I don't give a sh** attitude". But climbing up on the crane to fix the hydrolic line was CRAZY. Of course it had to be done, but dude has brass balls. I was getting vertigo just watching it.

That "cowboy" guy was too old to be out there. He only thought he was tough. Maybe it was the cold that got him, but he should have sucked it up and did his job.

QUESTION FOR BIRDMAN:

If a greenhorn quits like that, does the captain give him one red cent? Personally, I'd take him into port, drop him off, and tell him that he better pray that I never run into him again.


Any greenhorn or deckhand stories of guys quitting or doing crazy stuff to get backt to port? Capt. Jonathan told a story of a captain getting a gun pulled on him to influence him to turn the boat around. Crazy!

A few seasons ago one of the captains had to take a greenhorn back to port when he threatened to put on a survival suit and jump overboard. It was the same boat that took a rogue wave and briefly tipped over on the way back to sea.

That would be The Wizard.

The "cowboy" was complaining that he was being disrespected and not being treated like man, which is why he quit. Being a "man" would mean stepping up and doing your job despite the miserable conditions. He just couldn't hack it. How can he even look his fellow mates in the eyes after that?

it was funny when he was yelling "I demand respect!" Because that always works. /sarcasm

Are they doing another season? If so, when does it air?

I imagine that they did pay the cowboy. Not anywhere close to his half-share. They probably gave him $500-$1000 or so. That way, they don't have to deal with any legal baloney. Also enough for plane ticket to get off the island.

I've been on boats when guys quit or were fired. Their seabag is packed at sea. Before you even finish tying up, they're on the dock.

One of these guys had a drinking problem and a big mouth. Captain fired him on the way into port, with about hour to go. Dude argued and bellyached for entire hour. (nothing violent or scary) He still wanted to argue at the dock. Captain turned on the firehose and soaked him. It was January, so the guy finally shut up and left. I'm laughing right now just remembering it.

Guys quit like that all the time. They just can't handle the workload or the stress. They get the 'aleutian stare'. Once you see that, they're as good as gone.

I've never been onboard when a guy snapped. Lots of scary stories. A friend was on a boat when a guy when nuts. He wanted to go into port. Said he was going to kill himself, kill other people, etc. Crew tried to calm him down, but he had already lost his mind. He took a knife and cut off his own thumb. Guy had been fishing for couple of years, so it was weird. Probably effects from a drug problem.

Best line from the captain. "He could have just cut off the tip of his pinky and we'd have gone into port. Now, he's got no thumb for the rest of life. He's as dumb as he is crazy."

Stuff like that happens a couple of times a year.

I'm kind of confused. Is the season (the television season) over? If so, when will the next season air?

This season is over. They will show reruns over the next few months and next season will probably start in April like it did this year.

They rerun the hell out of that show.

Wish the season lasted longer. What was it, 12 episodes?

What i found to be very funny was when the "cowboy" was falling behind and they crew member was calling him "hero".

"We're waiting on you, hero."
