How could they not? They often seem closer to God than us - unconditional love and forgiveness, ability to find joy in the smallest (or stinkiest) things, contentment with their lot in life.

I fully believe that if there's a Heaven, all animals must be there. The bible says even the smallest sparrow merit's God's notice, right?

At least she is no longer in pain, though I know it's so painful for you.

There's a great Twilight Zone where an old hillbilly and his dog get drowned chasing racoons. They go down a road and a guy offers to let the man come onto his land and make himslef at home. Seems nice enough but no dogs allowed. Old man says he'll just keep going.

Comes up to another man a little further down the road. Feller say him and his dog are welcome and asked him why he didn't take the other feller's invite. Old man says something like, "If my dog ain't welcome, I'll just keep looking". Second feller says we always welcome dogs at Paradise (or Heaven).

Good episode. Haven't seen it in a long time.

MBA, I saw that episode the other night! In fact, the dog didnt want to let him go in there either. Remember he was pulling him back.

PA-

Sorry for your loss. As I'm reading this post, my old Yellow lab is barking away at some ghost in the night. This thread makes me think back to my dogs as puppies and regret all the bad names I called them during training. Through thick and thin, they loved me unconditionally.

I hope my labs that have passed on are waiting on me one day. And...I hope Jesus figured out how to break Zeus of digging.

I lost my boy Sailor on January 20th. I got his ashes back last week and the only thing I could do was to put them in the LazyBoy that he had taken over 8 years ago when he was a pup.

He was 8 weeks old and on my front porch when I moved into a house in College Station. How, Why? I'll never know but he was a great addition to the family. Never caused a problem. Was an all-around great dog (minus stealing my chair).

Losing your 4-legged best buds just sucks.

PhiAggie, I'm so sorry about Missy.
Somebody sent me the following after I lost Sailor...it makes you remember the little things they did and know that they will be there for you when you come to greet them.

quote:

Saying goodbye to pets is the hardest:

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.

I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea.

You were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to me.

I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "It's me."

You looked so very tired as you sank into a chair.

I tried so hard to let you know I was standing there.

It's possible for me to be so near you everyday, To say with certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...

In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over...I smile and watch you yawning and say "good night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide, I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.

Be patient, live your journey out...then come to be with me.
