What in the hell is this SoyBoy "I also sit to pee" home defense garbage? Whatever you're paying the intern to vibecode generate your AI commercial, you are overpaying.

It's a woman in the video. I don't think males are the target market for this ad.

Edit: Just checked out their site. Every image and video is of a woman being shown how to use their product.

The extended Ad that just aired on the Astros game shows its not. It was a soyboy complaining about violence and saying he loves his byrna.

Edit: Found it, added to op. It was a cut version of this video just showing him complaining about violence and saying he wont touch his glock anymore first and loves his byrna.

Meh. I just want people to be safe. If they aren't comfortable with a gun then there are numerous other safety products that have been on the market for decades.

They sell non lethal rounds for real weapons with way more stopping power if they are so scared. Never trust an overpriced co2 paintball gun with you or your families safety. These things cost more than a real firearm.

Non lethal? So did they just figure out how to get a 6.5 Creedmoor into a pistol or what?

All jokes aside, I'm going to take a different stance on this. I wouldn't personally own one because I'm a gun guy. I'm comfortable with them, I shoot them well, and live somewhere that I don't worry much about it.

I could definitely see this being useful in some settings where folks just aren't comfortable with firearms, the repercussions of possibly killing someone, and all the fun that comes with it. In fact, I'm kind of jealous I didn't think of it first. It's good marketing and they have a niche.

They go through the effort of making sure their devices are 50 state carry legal which is important in some places with second amendment hostility. Better than nothing. Nobody wants to get shot with a high velocity marble sized pepper ball.

But if you have anxiety over a real firearm then it does you absolutely zero good, even if you're shooting fake ammo. I know that might not click because most, if not all, of us are very much firearm people in this board, so I'll try to equate it to something that I suffer with.

I have a deep anxiety for any kind of electrical work. I got hit with 220 when I was a kid. Knocked me out cold. In my early 20's I probably moved 500+ electrical outlets while installing networks and home theater equipment. Yet, to this day my heart races just thinking about doing any kind of electrical work.

Some people have this about guns. Whether it be trauma induced or caused by an upbringing of ignorance. This product, as well as numerous other less than lethal products, give them some level of protection that they can feel comfortable with.

We're definitely not their target market. As others have said, this is great for people who have their hands tied because of the state they live in, fear or anxiety, maybe they have issues with the strength needed to operate a pistol, or maybe a reformed felon who can't legally own a firearm.

I dunno, just playing devil's advocate some because, again, I just really care that people keep themselves safe.

When Dad died, I convinced Mom to get a pistol. A year or two later she gave it to me, saying she didn't like having it. Now she sleeps with a can of wasp spray by her bed. I've given up trying to convince her to do otherwise/better. Maybe this would get her to upgrade from that ridiculous spray can.

When my dad died, my mom said she wanted a gun and asked me what to get. She is old and frail, so I suggested a small .22 revolver. Then she went to the gun shop and got the "that's not what you need, this is what you need" blah, blah, blah knock down power, blah, blah, blah quicker second shot. And wound up going home with a 9mm semi auto. She can't load it, she can't pull the slide, and when I took her out to shoot it, it almost jumped out of her hand. So now it sits in a gun safe never touched.

So something like the pepper paintballs would probably be better for an 85 year old woman, than an upsold 9mm that is unusable. And based on how often their commercials run in Fox News, I'm guessing that's their target audience, not soy boys.

Had a senior LEO highly recommended one for my wife who is nervous about carrying a gun in a purse around our/other's kids. Said get the LE version.

If someone is breaking into your house intending you harm good luck with this.

My aunt lives in nice lake house in a very rural area. Meth heads and trailer parks not far away. Her husband passed away this year and she's terrified of guns. Even though they have an entire gun safe filled with guns her sons got her one of these. I think they're nuts.

I would never let a loved one depend on one of these as their sole source of self defense. Just my opinion.

It's not playing Devil's Advocate. This is the correct take here. We are simply not the market demographic being targeted. Which does exist and does desire a means of defense and should have access to something. Period.

Everyone has different experiences that shape their views. You have a fear of electrical work. I don't like being around high pressure vessels. Weirds me out. Seen way too much harm and damage they can cause as a kid and as a young man. I even watch my tires side eyed and with suspicion when airing them up. I know people with gun fears that are very justified. Others that aren't justified. (At least in my eyes). Doesn't matter though. They don't have to justify anything to me. They still deserve a chance to defend themselves and their loved ones.

May not be as good as a gun but probably beats kicking and scratching.

No one knows how they are going to react in a life or death situation. If someone can't bring themselves to pick up a gun in a safe and controlled environment then what makes you think they will while they have a meth head breaking in? At that point, a butter knife is better than that pistol sitting in the safe.

This kind of thing might have been useful when my dad was alive. He had some dementia and lived alone about 3 miles away. Once he couldn't remember where he kept his gun/guns or if they were loaded, I took them to my house. The far and away most likely person to be shot in his house was me coming over to check on him. I had visions of Uncle Junior shooting Tony Soprano one day. But this may have given him some semblance of defense and I could handle being shot by this thing lol

And your point? They ran an ad featuring a soyboy complaining about "too much violence in the world" as why he won't use his real firearm when someone busted his door in. My opinion is this is a **** product for home defense with trash marketing. This overpriced paintball gun is going to get people killed when they are convinced to rely on it and a home invader has a real firearm or even a knife instead.

It's pretty easy to guess who has never been in someone else's sights or put someone in their own sights and pulled the trigger. What was it John Wayne's character said-"A big mouth doesn't make a big man?"

We all make choices in the level of protection that we walk around with. I chose to carry something comfortable most times versus a .30 caliber rifle and a shotgun slung over my shoulder with some homemade grenades in my pockets and a backpack with ballistic plates. It's a compromise and a gamble, but it's my gamble. Something is better than nothing. The poster above who said that their mother keeps a can of wasp spray by her bed- hell yeah! Love that. She is at least doing something.

But there IS too much violence in the world. If there wasn't then you wouldn't be advocating for everyone to be strapped all the time or else they'll for sure get their whole family murdered.

The point is that WAS his stated reason for NOT using his actual firearm to defend his home when someone busted his door in. Afraid of hurting the home invader. They are equating stopping a home invasion and protecting your family and property as committing violence! That is the whole issue with that commercial they aired. It wasn't grandma buying her first self defense weapon to put in her purse but a grown dude at home sitting on the couch.

Maybe you need to go listen to his story again. You keep calling him a soy boy. He engaged with a big guy that looks drunk and entered his house. He also had a Glock available. He chose a less lethal option based on what he saw. It worked and he didn't have a potentially hostile grand jury to worry about. Your definition of soy boy and mine are much different. Dude is a badass.

I've had to worry about that hostile grand jury. Have you?

Or trained ex military, or ninjas!!

The way y'all treat a scenario that has a less than 0.01% chance of happening is hilarious sometimes. If y'all treated vehicles this way then we would all be driving cars with roll bars, 5 point harnesses and helmets at 20mph. And I say that as someone who has plenty of home defense.

Guess what, if someone breaks into my house I'm set, my wife is probably set, but my 9 year old daughter isn't going Rambo and drawing down on a group of thugs. She'll have to be a casualty of war since nothing is apparently better than something.

Sometimes, based on how a lot of my friends talk about their need for self defense, I feel the best option for them would be to just move out of whatever perceived ghetto they live in.

You legitimately sound like a woke leftist.

Yeah….why do we even need guns?

Why do people even wear seatbelts? Don't you know the chances are so low?

This thread has gone from people simply disagreeing with the effectiveness of pepper balls to people suggesting guns for self defense are overrated.

This board is so strange at times.

In this thread? On our boards?

What are you even going on about at this point?

It seems like you made one reply and now you're trying to argue with anyone who disagrees with you.

I've only witnessed a lot of seemingly reasonable people discussing self defense strategies on these boards.

I don't ever recall a bunch of trigger happy people looking for a reason to kill someone here. That's completely out of what's typical here.

Why not say "neat idea, but not for me" and just move on?

You are living in a world of denial if you think things like this don't happen. A guy that use to work with me had the same mentality and woke up one night to his wife being raped on their living room couch while he was asleep on the floor. The rapist stabbed him 15 times when he intervened. The first thing he did when he was released from the hospital was buy a gun. Evil exists. Continue to deny that and live in your little bubble since that is your choice as a free man but don't chastise or ridicule those of us who do know evil exists.
