Need help finding nail clippers worth a damn. Large 120 pound dog. Have tried a bunch of kinds from amazon and chewy. Don't love any of them. He hates having his nails clipped and is strong enough to make if difficult. Grinding just seems to take longer and he doesn't like it any better. Bought a scratch board. He is pretty handsy with his front paws, but the stupid dog is afraid of the board and, while I think I can get him trained to use it, isn't cooperating with it yet.

Feel like a really solid tool with really sharp edges would make the process easier and safer, but I have no confidence in what my searches are kicking back - they all seem the same and all I have tried are lacking. Willing to invest in a good tool.

Thoughts on the plier clippers versus the guillotine type?

Any recommendations?

My wife is the pet nail tech in our house. She's tried several different ones on our big boy, Golden Pyr currently weighing in at about 110 lbs. She recently bought this off Amazon and she said it works great.

I have done dremel and clippers and find the dremel is easier especially on dogs that don't love it.

Regardless of what instrument you use:

1. Tire the dog out before you cut them. Long run or whatever.
2. Throw a slab of peanut butter on a paper plate and let the dog have at it everytime you do the nails.

Gonna try that diamond bit idea.

I use a Dremel. I got the dog used to me handling his paws when he was a puppy. Then, before trying to do his nails, I spent about a month getting him used to the Dremel. Now, he just hands me his paw. However, he does demand treats during the process.

I can handle his feet all day long. Did that with intention when young. This is another thing that got messed up when daughter took him to college. She can actually trim them. They weigh about the same and she literally lays on top of him to hold him down and it comically gets done.

I have about a 50% success rate. Trying to train it to not include her process.
